Reading Time: 4 min read

Here’s an article which gives feature wise comparison for Bluehost vs HostGator:

BlueHost and HostGator are two major Web Hosting companies that have been highly rated by analysts. Providing virtual private server (VPS), reseller and dedicated web hosting, both of them have fine qualities and offer excellent services to customers.

BlueHost is one of the oldest web hosting companies that was founded in 1996. HostGator is another popular web hosting company that was established in 2002. Both these companies have been acquired by Endurance International Group – a large web hosting company.

BlueHost was acquired in 2010 whereas HostGator was acquired in 2012.

Both these companies offer attractive and affordable web hosting service and other related service to wide range of customers. However, it has been observed that there are some variations in these services when comparing the two companies.

There are few areas where BlueHost has an advantage over HostGator in the services that they offer through web hosting.

BlueHost vs HostGator Comparison

Point 1: BlueHost is faster, secure and robust:

BlueHost uses open source technology and is one of the world’s largest providers of cloud-based online solutions. Their Cloud solution is simple, safe, powerful, and affordable. The data is automatically reflected across three distinct devices. If there is a hardware problem at one, fail over technology automatically allocates one copy of the website to function properly while the other two copies work on rebuilding.

With premium hardware and low density servers, there is no longer load time. The cloud platform ensures that server resources are focused where they should be. Both static and dynamic web contents are managed efficiently.

The dashboards provide useful information about the site’s performance with a quick view into usage trends, page download speed, uptime, global access, and more. Instant resource management, like increasing cloud usage, adding CPU or RAM, etc., prevents the site from going down due to heavy traffic.

BlueHost uses CPU Segregation Technology, which can intelligently control CPU and protect the site from unwanted users. A feature called CPU throttling refers to the process of reducing user’s CPU usage whenever the particular user is using a lot of resources from the server at one time. Whenever this happens, BlueHost will reduce CPU usage of clients’ sites substantially. This effectively shuts down clients’ websites hosted on the BlueHost server for several hours throughout the day.

BlueHost leverages advertising offers from Google, Bing and other leading sites to grow customers’ business. These include marketing coupons that can be used to market website. BlueHost uses Google’s App for Work that allows users to configure and set up their chosen domain while continuing to use Google products such as Gmail and Google Drive. The user can create, edit and share files from computer, phone, laptop and tablet with tools that provide the needed control.

None of the above technologies is observed in HostGator although their servers are located at state of the art data centres.

Point 2: BlueHost has Cloud Plans

BlueHost offers three Cloud plans called Starters, Performance and Business Pro and three Web Hosting Plans. The most popular Cloud plan is the Performance Plan which costs $6.95/month.

Visit BlueHost

This plan comes with unlimited and unmetered websites, storage space, bandwidth, email accounts and 1 free domain.

On the other hand, HostGator have only web hosting plans but no Cloud plans.

We are almost at the halfway of our BlueHost vs HostGator comparison.

Point 3: BlueHost gives Free domain names for your business

BlueHost offers three web hosting plans called Starters, Plus and Business Pro and includes a free domain for 1 year with 1 & 2 year web hosting plans.

None of the HostGator’s web hosting plans plans includes any free domain.

Point 4: BlueHost provides exceptional Page load time and Time to First Byte (TTFB) services

Page load time is the time taken by a server to load a webpage when it is accessed for the first time by a visitor. The webpage is not yet in the browser’s cache by then.

Time to First byte is the time taken by a server to deliver the first byte of information when loading a web page. It is a good indicator of the responsiveness and overall speed of the server.

Research shows that page load time and TTFB of website hosted by BlueHost is faster than those hosted by HostGator.

Point 5: BlueHost provides Automatic Backups for FREE

It is critical to back up files and databases of the website to prevent any loss or vandalism, and automatic backup ensures that backups are performed on a regular basis. BlueHost’s plans include automated weekly backups at no extra charge.

HostGator charges $15 to restore an automated backup. And manual backups can be performed at no cost via the control panel (cPanel).

Conclusion:

We have seen the comparison of BlueHost vs HostGator – the two most popular web hosting companies. BlueHost has several safe and fast technical features in cloud computing and uses few Google products. While HostGator is more focused towards Application Hosting. As I always say, there is no perfect Web hosting company. You need see which one fits your needs.
