3 Steps to publish your Website in the right way

For a webmaster or Web Development Company, installing or publishing a website is a routine job and smaller sites are published within minutes. The theory sounds enough, but most of you make many mistakes. I am sure many of them are harmless and most of you would term them unimportant. It is sure your website will not break if you miss Meta description, but you know how this is for probable visitor or Google. Like this, there are many more mistakes. You need to check the website thoroughly before publishing it. Here are 3 steps to publish your site:

Check website URLs, links and image paths

Redirect old pages to the new URLs, if your new website is an updated version of an old one. Maybe your website would have got a completed new site structure. In this case, it is hard to match your site URLs. Redirecting will help you to get traffic. If the site is completely new, you need to check everything like URLs, links and images. You can use online or desktop tools to execute out this process.

Do optimization checks

There are many small thinks that you can do for your website ranking before publishing it. Here are the lists that you should do or ask your Web Development Company to do before installing your site:

  • Create a robots.txt and obstruct all the files along with the directories you do not like to see in the Google index. Remember to remove your temporary block, which was added while developing the site on the test location.
  • Use only the ‘www’ sub-domain for your site and redirect requests from your domain to the ‘www’ variant.
  • Have a check in your templates that an H1 element always exists only one time.
  • Add ALT attributes for all the images you have used in your business website.
  • Use a relevant and unique Meta description for all the pages to get indexed by search engines. It helps you to raise your CTR in search results.
  • Use the robots tag “noindex, follow” for all pages.
  • Use canonical links for all your web pages.
  • Use a descriptive and relevant page title for all the pages of your website.
  • Have a Google XML sitemap and add the sitemap URL to your robots.txt file.
  • Be sure that you change the privacy settings, if your website is built with WordPress.
  • In WordPress, avoid using the internal links without a trailing slash if your perma settings have a trailing slash.
  • Add a “noindex” robots tag to all your RSS feeds.

Do cross browser testing

Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are favorite Web Browsers for most of us. Some of the people are still using Internet Explorer to visit a website or conducting searches. Therefore, it is an essential for you to have a Cross Browser Testing. Open your site on all the available web browsers. If any issues take place or get visible, fix them soon.

You can take all these three steps yourself or ask your hired Web Development Company to follow these steps to publish your business website.
