Using Location for Marketing Your Business

Did you know that location-based services present multiple opportunities for both large and small brands? Aaron Strout, the Head of Location-Based Marketing at WCG, told WebProNews that Businesses of all sizes could use location services to better engage with their customers.
He is in the process of writing a book with Mike Schneider entitled Location Based Marketing for Dummies. The book, specifically, addresses how businesses can market themselves through location.
First of all, Strout said that businesses have to know where their customers are. Since there are many location-based services, businesses need to determine which ones their customers are using.
Once they figure out where their customers are, Strout suggests that they issue an offer on the given service or services. As he explained, Ben & Jerry’s did this well when they extended a discount to anyone who checked in.
Thirdly, he advises businesses to measure and monitor their results. Even if the results are not promising, a business needs to know what kind of impact their efforts are having.
Most importantly, Strout said businesses need to know who their influencers are. By finding out who is checking in, who is leaving comments and photos, and who the mayors are, businesses have an even greater opportunity to learn more about their customers.
