"We will soon be discontinuing digital and physical sales of The Last Remnant on PC." - Square Enix |
The announcement came out shortly after Valve announced that they'd be releasing a new feature for Linux users to the Steam platform called Steam Play, with some players alleging that Square Enix might not be okay with players playing their games on an unsupported Operating System.
Others have claimed that Square Enix could be planning a remastered or HD re-release of the game. Though not outside the realm of possibility with many other developers and publishers following this current trend of porting classic titles like Grandia HD to Switch/PC, no announcement has been made whether or not that is the case.
For now, speculation is all anyone has since no mention within the announcement was made as to why the game is being removed, with most players claiming that it has to do with poor sales of the game or an expired license that they have no interest in renewing.
Regardless of that, players have till September 4th to purchase the game (for $9.99 on steam) before it's removed permanently. Don't get into too big of a hurry yet though, it's been rumored that the game is going to receive a discount in the final days leading to its removal, though we won't know that until September.
In the event, there is no discount and you don't want to pay the full price you can try checking IsThereAnyDeals for the most recent discounts of the game. There's also the option of key resellers should you find you missed your chance to buy, though keep in mind there will be limited stock after the game has been pulled from storefronts.
