5 INVENTIONS THAT HAVE CHANGED THE WORLD

What do you imagine when you hear such words as “an invention”, “a gadget”, “an innovation”, “a discovery”, “a novelty”? Probably, you imagine a self-driving car, Falcon 9 Heavy, iPhone X, etc. However, just imagine what associations people had one hundred years ago? One thousand years? Let us try to trace what were the most significant inventions that have changed the world are.

Number 1 => Friction wooden device to lay a fire

Creating and controlling fire was one of the first steps to society as we see it today. The truth is that fire gave human being protection, warmth, ability to cook and better hunting methods. Scientists proved that the first evidence of using fire by a human being goes back to 1,000,000 years ago. Firstly, people tried to save fire, which was given ‘by nature’, e.g., from wildfires. Widely known ability to create fire by a friction device with hardwood rubbing against softwood was a quite late development.
This development helped humans to change the usual way of life, to step in a new era. Early people started creating new weapons, which gave opportunity to enhance the processes of hunting and self-protection. People learned how to conduct metalworking operations. This also was a new era in culture and arts. Human beings began creating first samples of ceramics. Scientists see the progress in religious beliefs and ceremonies. They invented new gods and new rituals. Besides, the fire was a further step in medicine. The ancient sorcerers, shamans, and quacks used fire as spiritual material in their routines. For hundreds of years, fire became a means of both punishment and protection.

Number 2 => Printing press

Moving through history, we will find the other interesting invention, which has changed the way people communicated. Printing presses were invented in Germany and China almost simultaneously. Those two samples had some technical differences, but both of them was the way to the new era. The era of knowledge. The printing press made the knowledge spread around the world with great speed. This device made information more accessible, and more and more people started learning how to read. This brought the life of people on the new level. Education started its development, because of the ability to duplicate books without handwriting. Literacy amongst the middle class in its turn increased demand for books. Now, society needed more books in a shorter time.
Later, this invention also made people more aware of what is going on in the world (well, at least in their country). Kings, princes, the pope informed people about the most important events through some ancestors of the modern, informative leaflet. The governance hanged these ‘leaflets’ at towns’ squares so that all the citizens could see them. Later this grew into what we call newspapers nowadays. To sum up, the invention of a printing press became a foundation press for mass communication and for keeping in touch in different points of the planet.

Number 3 => Electricity

It is evident that nowadays people can hardly imagine their lives without electricity (except for the wild people, who still live on Earth). From the moment you are born, you always use electricity. Nowadays to lose electricity would mean the loss of progress. No factories are working, no TVs, nothing. It sounds scary, doesn’t it?
The impact of electricity on human life can hardly be overestimated. Electricity was the very first step to all the other devices created within centuries after the invention of electricity. Neither rockets nor vaporizers for weed can be made without electricity. For our society, electricity is one of the basic resources. We use it at home, at work, during holidays. Every time. Everyday. For the time being, scientists are actively working out the alternative sources of energy. The work with solar, wind, tidal, wave energies. However, electricity remains the most reliable source. This invention comes from developments of a system of communication through computers for military people. The first researches began in the 1960s, but scientists got the backbone of the network only in 1980s. This invention tended to kick into high gear. This became popular not only as a secret way of communication but also as a space for information storing and exchange for ordinary people. We have looked through the major inventions of the past, but we can never say what the best invention of the present is. What changes our society now?

Number 5 => Vapes

You can see vape pens everywhere, every day. From child to an old man – all use them. You can never be sure if they use an ordinary ecig or a real weed vape pen. Some people believe them to be a healthy alternative to cigarettes. The other cay that they are completely dangerous and trigger cancer. Surely, there exist many pieces of research on the impact of this device on human health and the environment. What we are sure, is the fact that it depends only on humans. Any invention may be used to its detriment or work to the benefit. Be careful users, and this would bring you good. The example is the usage of weed vape pen for medical cannabis to cure people. Although the number of the researches conducted is not enough to conclude about the usefulness of this device, we can clearly see that this invention is changing the world: it helps people to feel better and becomes a common entertainment for all categories of people.
