E3 2018 – Biggest Surprise Announcements

The dust is now settling on E3 2018. There were highs and lows and lots of games we’ve seen at previous conferences and shows. There were still plenty of nice surprises that were thrown at us. Below are GamingDog’s Biggest Surprise Announcements of E3 2018.

Cyberpunk 2077

Finally, a Cyberpunk 2077 trailer from CDK Project Red. This game has been in development for years now so hopefully, it will be early 2019. The trailer, however, stated that it would be coming when it’s ready.

The E3 trailer showed a world steeped in rich detail hopefully the game law will be just as deep.

Control – PS4

This was a nice little surprise from Remedy. This 3rd person slick action game caught a lot of peoples eyes at E3 2018. Can’t wait to find out more about this game and the world the devs have created.

Tetris Effect – PSVR

Ok, not everyone was excited for Tetris Effect when it was revealed in the week running up to E3 2018, but this game is from Rez creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi. That alone should make you excited if at all you enjoyed that game.

Tetris is one of the most addictive games of all time so to be able to play in VR will be so cool. It can also be played in standard non-VR mode too. There are lots of modes and stunning special effects to suck into your head through your eyeballs so keep them peeled for the release date.

Microsofts Announces New studios and Next-gen Xbox

Microsoft showed their commitment to developing new, stronger exclusives in the future by snapping up some well know and some not so well known studios. There are 5 new studios in total including Undead Labs (State of Decay), Playground Games (Forza Horizon), Ninja Theory (Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice), Compulsion Games (We Happy Few) and new studio The Initiative.

The next Xbox consoles are also being developed on as mentioned by Xbox Chief, Phil Spenser. I doubt the plural “consoles” was used by mistake as we have already seen this gen multiple consoles have been released.

Prey: Trophy Hunter and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot VR Games Announced

Bethesda seems to not disappoint each year. It’s not until these big conferences that you realise how many games and franchises they work on. They also have the balls to support new fledgling platforms like VR and Nintendo Switch.

This year was no different with both Prey: Trophy Hunter and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot for VR headsets announced. Now whether this includes PSVR is still to be seen. But If they can bring a version of 2016’s Doom to PSVR in an alternative version then maybe Bethesda will go down the same route with these two new games.

Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI for Next Gen Shown at E3 2018

Again there was no holding back for Bethesda announcing they are working on Starfield, a space RPG for next-gen hardware.

Not only that they also announced Elder Scrolls VI which will be released after Starfield.

It’s strange they mentioned these, maybe it’s because everyone kept asking for Elder Scroll 6 and wouldn’t shut up about it so Bethesda thought let’s just show them what our development plans are to keep them happy and quiet.

Halo Infinite

Is Halo Infinite a next-gent gen game teased early or could this be the first of a number of cross-gen games as the new generation of consoles roll out? Either is possible at this point in the current gen life cycle.

We didn’t get much info on Halo Infinite apart from that it is using the new Slipspace Engine. The graphical demo in the trailer below looks pretty nice and I can only imagine that this engine will have been tailored to also work with next-gen consoles.

Gears POP!

Could this be the start of a new franchise of games in the same vein as the Telltale Lego series of games? I suppose if Gears POP! has a successful start then maybe. The only thing holding it back from becoming anywhere near as successful as the Lego games is if it is allowed to go multiplatform, which I’m guessing Microsoft isn’t going to allow happen. Anyone for Starwars POP!?
