5 Games With Great Item Descriptions

The preconception that gamers do not have a sense of humour should be thrown out the window. Most games are developed by gamers themselves, and the writing for these items were great knee-slappers. We found 5 games with great item descriptions that we truly found hilarious.

Backhanded Compliment – Destiny

Um, thank you? …Wait a sec. (source)

Sometimes, a Backhanded Compliment may be inadvertent. However, the term usually connotes an intent to belittle or condescend. But this is fine, because it’s a gun, right?

No. Don’t just take that, friends! You take that Backhanded Compliment, and hit them right back! “I might look good in red, but you look good on the floor, dead! And that’s a compliment.” *drops mic*

Handmaid’s Ladle – Dark Souls 2

Yeah, I wouldn’t call this soup-er useful either. (source)

“An ordinary kitchen ladle.

He who chooses this as a weapon either faces extenuating circumstances or has an odd sense of humor. If you care for your life, leave this one in the kitchen.”

I’m not sure if it’s because a ladle is unexpected and leaves the opponent questioning themselves, or if it’s actually a viable weapon. But videos have been made with this weapon in tow.

Wait, this actually works…?

Even though I don’t play any of the Souls games (yet), this makes me want to do it.

Otolaryngologist’s Mirror – Team Fortress 2

*stifling laughter* (source)

Team Fortress 2 is known for being light-hearted and great with flavour text. But wait, isn’t this the thing that is commonly used in artists’ renderings and Hollywood depictions of a physician? I don’t think it’s a very common instrument these days, but man that is difficult to pronounce!

Cello and Eraser – Katamari Damacy

Ouch. Also, too real, eraser. Too real.

To those who are unfamiliar with Katamari Damacy, you are a prince rolling a magical, highly adhesive ball called a katamari around various locations, collecting increasingly greater objects. Ranging from thumbtacks to people to mountains, you only stop when the ball has grown great enough. If you go to your collection, you can see each item that you have picked up. When you highlight an item, the King will describe it for you.

The Sims

Good ol’ Sims furniture. (source)

The Sims has always been known to possess witty writing and funny flavour items. It was one of the reasons that kept me playing every time they released a new one. Of course, they don’t need to spend time writing dialogue, since every phrase resonates with the unforgettable blurt  that sounds like “faloopsinarb, woo fa goo.”

What other items with hilarious descriptions are there? There are probably more, but these 5 games really shone through this time. We’re definitely keeping our eyes peeled for more to come!
