Understand Indian vegetarian food better

The Food in India has a unique history and has many interesting influences. Indian cuisine, just like Indian culture has the ability to soak in influences from a multitude of other cultures but still hold its own. Indian food has grown enormously in popularity throughout the world. Even remote places have Indian restaurants and the people living there are aware of what Indian cuisine is. Indian vegetarian food has a huge fan following abroad. However, despite its immense popularity, a huge number of people still carry a number of misconceptions about Indian food. Read on to find out whether you have those misconceptions too!

One of the biggest misconceptions about Indian food is that it is extremely spicy. This is true and also not true! Indian cooking gets its aromas and flavors from a number of spices. How you mix them together and which ones you don’t use in your dish will determine how the dish finally tastes. Thus, you can actually request for a less spicy meal that still retains all its aromas and flavors.  The amount of chilies that are used in the preparation entirely depends on you. Most Indian food restaurants are flexible when it comes to the use of spices. So if you prefer less, simply ask!

Another misconception is that Indian food is fatty and unhealthy. Yet another myth is going to be busted! Agreed that there are a few special Indian dishes that are considered to be decadent and rich, but that is true with every cuisine. Indian food, especially Indian Vegetarian Food has hundreds of healthy and delicious options for the health conscious. There are so many dishes that are made entirely by roasting, steaming, boiling or grilling.  And the variety of vegetables that are used in Indian cooking is extremely wide so an Indian meal can be extremely healthy.

Most people also think that Indian food is limited and everything contains curry powder. Just pick up the menu of Indian food restaurants to see for yourself the sheer variety that Indian food has to offer. The starters, soups, main course and dessert, each category has several interesting options which have been prepared through various different methods of cooking and a variety of different mixture of spices. Another thing about spices is that they have medicinal properties. Spices like turmeric, ginger, garlic and green chilies have healing properties. And these are mixed together in different proportions to give different flavors to every dish. The best thing about them is that they are freshly grounded and do not contain any preservatives. Thus, almost all of Indian cooking is done from scratch so you can be sure that the ingredients are fresh and good for your body.

A lot of people are a little intimidated of actually cooking Indian food because they believe that it is extremely difficult, complex and time consuming. This is also a myth. There are a lot of recipes that are quick, easy and healthy. Especially when it comes to Indian vegetarian food, the choices are endless and the cooking time is quite low. So now that you know the benefits of Indian food and a lot of your misconceptions are clear, I suggest you go ahead and book a table at an Indian restaurant and try the numerous dishes available for you.
