REVIEW: Munnar Tea Country Resort – Munnar, India

I had such a beautiful stay here at Munnar Tea Country Resort which I’m excited to tell you about. Especially, if you’re interested in visiting this part of India. So get yourself a cuppa and get comfy… Ready?

THE VIBES:

Boasting some of the most fabulous panoramic views of Munnar, Munnar Tea Country Resort beholds tonnes of beauty. It’s set within the heart of Munnar’s hill station and its gardens have over 100 species of flowers to admire as you walk through its grounds. So much colour and so much floral scents to enjoy! The traditional modern interiors, together with the vast amount of flowers and scenic views means we  can only describe this hotel as a botanical paradise. One which I’d have loved to enjoy for more than one night! Upon arrival, we were greeted kindly by staff at the reception and blessed with a traditional bindi and given a complimentary juice drink. We were then given a brief tour of the hotel’s facilities which included; a family room, daily yoga, spa, children’s room, dining area, amphitheatre and more. Meanwhile, our bags were taken to our room…

THE ROOM:

The hotel has many villas and cottages for both families, couples and friends. We stayed in of the hotel’s family villas. At 605 sq.ft, the room itself was large and very spacious. As you entered, there was a living space with sofas and TV. Followed by a dining and kitchen area with complimentary food and drink. Then eventually the bedroom which had a super luxurious comfy bed. The best part about this room was the balcony views which overlooked the hills of Munnar. You can imagine how relaxing it was waking up to the sounds and views of nature at your window right?

THE FOOD:

After freshening up in the room, you can head down to the hotel’s restaurant area which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. After arriving and settling in, we were ready for lunch. We enjoyed one of their traditional vegetable soups, served with popadums and chapatti. The soup itself was quite spicy but burst with all kinds of flavour. In the evening, we had the pleasure of admiring the romantic views at the hotel’s sunset point. This was absolutely stunning and set a gorgeous tone for dinner. As per, we were pretty indecisive about what food to order. Who isn’t when it comes to food? They had a lovely choice which included traditional Indian food as well as continental dishes. In the end, we shared a starter of vegetarian kebabs, followed by Tikka Masala King Prawns (pescatarian), Pineapple Curry and Garlic Naan. It was delicious!

The breakfast was a buffet style which included both traditional Indian and Continental options. You’re able to have eggs made to order in any way you wish, and their fresh juices were also delicious.

THE DAMAGE:

The cost of staying here is 8,256 Indian Rupees per night which works out as £90/$126. Given the price, the hotel is unlikely to attract backpackers on a budget. It’s a lovely place for couples and families to stay. But, it’s worth the pennies if you can afford it either way. Breakfast was included in our stay and the other food came to 1,500 Indian Rupees including drinks.

SHOULD I STAY AT MUNNAR TEA COUNTRY RESORT?

If you are looking for a taste of luxury to return to after long treks and days of exploring in Munnar, I couldn’t recommend this place enough. It really is a beauty hidden within the hills…
