I’m happy to renege on my hatred towards comic book franchise movies for Guardians of the Galaxy. I happened upon the first instalment by coincidence and was taken aback by it’s light spirit, quirky sense of humour and all round entertainment value. The tongue-in-cheek sci-fi adventure is back for another round. Recruiting the same crew, including James Gunn the director of the first film, it looks as if the party continues exactly where it left off.
The trailer is scored by Sweet’s 1974 song Fox on the Run, continuing the 80’s nostalgia of the first film. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 follows the newfound family of misfits as they travel the galaxy attempting to unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. The gang includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as attractive green alien Gamora, Bradley Cooper voicing the cynical raccoon Rocket, Vin Diesel voicing Baby Groot, Dave Bautista as the friendly Russian body-builder and Karen Gillan as Nebula. New comers include Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Sylvester Stallone.
Pratt’s comedic strengths and leading man power mean he is perfectly cast in this and Cooper delivers his best performance in my opinion – because it’s just his voice (I don’t like him). This franchise doesn’t take itself too seriously, it is fun, exciting and everything entertainment should be. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to be released worldwide in April and May (28th of April in the UK). You can watch the full trailer below.
