Actor Rajkummar Rao is on cloud nine as his newly released movie ‘Newton’ has been earning praises from all corners and has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars in the Foreign Language film category. He believes that it is due to the blessings of his mother that have resulted in so much success for the movie and for his career. Rajkummar was quoted saying, “Whatever good is happening with ‘Newton’ is because of my mom’s blessings. I really believe in that.”

‘Newton’ had a world premiere at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival, where it even bagged the Art Cinema Award in the Forum Segment. It also won the Best Film Award in the Jury category at the Hong Kong International Film Festival. Rajkummar quipped, “Winning in Berlinale, in Hong Kong and then to get such an amazing response, reviews and now to be India’s official entry for Oscars… My mother is right up there and keeping a check on me. He further added, “I’m happy people saw that Indianness in ‘Newton’. It has a global appeal and it’s so universal in nature, but still so rooted and grounded (in India).” Before ‘Newton’, the actor was seen in ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ which proved his range as an actor. Speaking about the same, he said, “My process of choosing scripts remains the same. Of whatever I read and whatever excites me is what I will continue to take up.” Looking at his immense prowess over acting, some people have gone to an extent of calling him as the Naseeruddin Shah of current times. Laughing out over the comparisons with the senior actor, Rajkummar said, “Naseer sir is one of the finest actors of our country. We have only one Naseeruddin Shah and we are very proud of him.”

Talking about ‘Newton’, the movie is directed by Amit V Masurkar, produced by Manish Mundra and released on Sept 22, 2017.
