SNES to return to stores in all-new Classic Edition

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System is returning to stores, in the form of a brand new classsic edition, Nintendo announced today.

The console will launch on September 29 and will contain 21 pre-installed Classic games from the original SNES console released in 1991.

It will be suited for modern day high-definition TVs using HDMI cables.

“While many people from around the world consider the Super NES to be one of the greatest video game systems ever made, many of our younger fans never had a chance to play it,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

“With the Super NES Classic Edition, new fans will be introduced to some of the best Nintendo games of all time, while longtime fans can relive some of their favorite retro classics with family and friends.”

Some of the titles to be available with the new smaller console include Donkey Kng Country, Final Fantasy III, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Star Fox, Super Castlevania IV, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Yoshi’s Island, Street Fight II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, and so many more.

Also included for the first time ever will be Star Fox 2, the sequel to the original Star Fox, which was developed for SNES but never released.
