Miss Grand International: Rising & Reaching Greater Heights

Miss Grand International is rising regarding popularity and recognition.

The young and fledgling Pageant from Thailand has taken the internet and social media by storm with its fantastic stage sets, high-quality images, and streaming of preliminary activities. No other pageant has done this tremendous job of keeping fans up to date.

The pageant started was started in 2013 by Nawat Itsaragrisil, a TV personality in Thailand and was known for his late night travel show and talk show in Channel 3. He was also the director for Miss World Thailand pageant from 2007 to 2012.

Miss Grand International is the beauty pageant for all who loves the core of every beauty pageant — glitz, glamour, elegance, beauty, and fashion. Its format is similar to Miss Universe, where candidates compete in swimsuits, evening gowns, and face the final question.

But Miss Grand International brought the format of Miss Universe to a whole new level, with over the top introduction, fantastic gown reveals reminiscent of many beloved drag queens, and some dramatic musical score during the Q & A, which mostly tackles questions about war and world peace.

The pageant, young and is still trying to build a lasting legacy in the beauty pageant industry, is doing everything by the book, compensating everything the shortcomings of pageants that have come before it.

Miss Grand International chose “Stop the War” slogan, calling for peace and ending conflicts around the world with the pageant as its platform. It was a huge cause to choose that came across as something picked for convenience and media mileage.

But the organization tried its best to do significant projects in line with its advocacy. It is especially true in an era where pageants are deemed archaic and outdated.

Unlike Miss World, MGI chose to side with Miss Universe, Miss Earth, and Miss International; and retained the swimsuit round. Unlike Miss International, MGI made its production eye catchy and entertaining, surpassing the quality of a much established Miss Earth.

In social media, MGI kept its fans happy with high definition images of candidates and queens during various activities. It won fans in throngs, overshadowing Miss Earth, Miss International, and Mis Supranational in the number of likes and followers in social media.

MGI’s preliminary show was even topnotch, way better than the entire Miss International finals. Streaming of its swimsuit and evening gown preliminaries is of excellent quality and genuinely entertaining, despite the length of the show.

While we recognize the relevance of beauty pageants lies in their causes and advocacy, it is also equally essential to cater and quelch the thirst of many fans to the kind of competition that the likes of Miss Universe and Miss Earth provide.

Miss World has long ditched the competition and has become an awards night for month-long activities and competition beyond the awareness of casual TV viewers. And with Miss Grand International, the exciting and fun pageants that all of us have loved come now in three forms — the popular and highly followed Miss Universe, the unpredictable and oft-controversial Miss Earth, and the rising Miss Grand International.
