Spider-Man: Homecoming Spoiler Free Movie Review

Spider-Man: Homecoming. One of the most anticipated movies of 2017. Tons of trailers, posters, ads, and etcetera. This Movie got everyone hyped up long before its release - this sets the bar pretty high for Spidey. It has an earlier release here in Indonesia, and I just came home from the cinema to tell you what I think about it.

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter Parker is a 15 year old high school kid who's really smart and in several school clubs such as band and the decathlon team. Tom Holland, who plays Peter/ Spider-Man, delivers something new and different on his take as the friendly neighborhood hero, and it's hard not to compare him to his predecessors; Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. In my opinion, all three of them had their own unique way of interpreting this character, so I can't give a definite rating of who's the best and least good (I don't think any of them are bad), but I can say that this Spider-Man is the most fun. He's just an awkward guy-next-door who has super spider powers and does really cool stunts. But being the most fun doesn't automatically make it the best. I felt a tiny bit of emptiness after the movie finished and I don't exactly know why, but maybe it has to do with me being used to the melancholic side of Spider-Man. But when I think about it, I haven't read the comics, and maybe Spider-Man is supposed to be loads of fun and less melancholic.

A superhero movie is always identified with the action scenes, and Spider-Man: Homecoming has some really fun action sequences. I have no problem with the first two acts, but I do have a problem with the third act's final fight scene. Michael Keaton did a great acting job as the villain, of course, but I couldn't get past the feeling that his character was a bit too easy-to-defeat, especially after seeing his previous encounters with Spider-Man earlier in the movie.

Spider-Man's relationship with Tony Stark/ Iron Man is one of the best things I could say about Spider-Man: Homecoming because Peter is a teenager who's going through what teens concern about the most: finding who they are, and in a way (I'm not going to get into much detail), Tony helped him to discover who, and what, he is.

To conclude, I think they can tone the advertisements and public exposure down a bit so that people don't have huge expectations, and therefore leave the theater more satisfied, because I still can't get past the little empty feeling I feel. I enjoyed the movie, but I'm not as ecstatic as the euphoria that surrounds this movie promised the audience would feel. Feelings aside, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a fun movie with a fun Spider-Man, seasoned with a bit of self-discovery, some cool action scenes, and less drama, but the final fight could be better. I'm giving Spider-Man: Homecoming a 7 out of 10.
