The list is long and intriguing with an array of places to visit in Hyderabad and a huge number of activities to indulge in. Hyderabad is also called the Pearl City of India. It is a heady mixture of modernization and spectacular examples of historical monuments like Golconda Fort, Charminar, Mecca Masjid and Chowmahalla Palace. Topping the list of Hyderabad points of interest is Charminar (1591) an artistic and marvelous icon located in the heart of the city. The beautiful majestic structure got built when Quli Qutb Shah shifted capital from Golconda to Hyderabad. It got its name owing to its four minarets representing the four Khalifas of Islam. The mosque lies on the banks of Musi River.

The highlight being its lip smacking Hyderabadi biryani, the Irani Chai (tea),  and Mirch ka Salan, Double ka Meetha and Haleem. The crowded marketplace is a shopper’s paradise to shop the famous Hyderabadi pearls, semi-precious stones, jewelry, silverware, saris and colorful bangles.

A very popular hangout place and one of the most Famous Tourist Places in Hyderabad is Ramoji Film City (1966) a perfect weekend holiday getaway that showcases cinematic themes. As per Guinness World Records it is certified as the world’s largest Film Studio one of the most visited film cities in India.

Tourists visiting Ramoji Film City are enthralled by the city tours, adventure sports, garden tours and toy trains. You can indulge by visiting the sets of royal courts and other filmed locations based on inspirations from the world over.

Tips: Make sure you have an entire day to yourself to do justice to this awe-inspiring city.

One of the most historically rich places to visit in Hyderabad is the splendid monument Chowmahalla Palace. It was built between 1857-1869 and was once the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty and the official residence of the Nizam’s of Hyderabad.

The heir of Nizam Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah still has rights to the property. The palace has been awarded with the UNESCO’s Asia Pacific Merit Award (2010).

Tourists love to participate in the famous heritage walks through the old Hyderabad organized from the Palace regularly.

The market dates back to the time when the wife (Ladli Begum) of the king of Hyderabad Mir Mehboob Ali Khan ruled the region.

Tips: If you want to shop zari saris Laad Bazaar (market) is the place.

Mecca Masjid

One of the oldest places to visit in Hyderabad is Mecca Masjid a revered shrine commissioned by Muhammad Quli Qutub shah in 1614 – 1694. The arch over the main sanctum is made from soil taken from the Holy Land of Mecca. That is why it is called the ‘Makkah Masjid’.

The Masjid has a capacity to accommodate 10,000 people in its imposing façade and a very renowned pilgrimage.

Tips: Entry to the Masjid is banned for non-Muslims.
