It’s College Football Season in New Orleans!

It’s winter in New Orleans, and that means one thing: college football! Every year, football fans flock to the Big Easy ready to cheer their hometown teams to victory. This year’s lineup again includes the Bayou Classic, the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, and the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Bayou Classic

It’s a rivalry close to home that spans more than four decades and calls for four days’ worth of festivities; the Bayou Classic celebrates the deep rivalry between Grambling State University and Southern University A & M. The Tigers and Jaguars first faced off 45 years ago at Tulane Stadium, and the “Bayou Clash” has grown so large that it’s moved to the Superdome. Festivities include a fan festival, parade, seminars, and other events, culminating with the big game on November 24. Before kickoff, both schools’ marching bands will compete in a “Battle of the Bands” competition to try to win their university another title.

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

One of the biggest sporting events of the year, the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl will be held December 15 at the Superdome. Teams from the Sun Belt Conference and Conference USA will face off to claim the title. Now in its 18th year, the event has expanded to feature concerts, activities, and competitions throughout the weekend. Last year, Troy won the title; it’s only a matter of time before this year’s winner is decided.

Allstate Sugar Bowl

Kick off the New Year with the Allstate Sugar Bowl on January 1, 2019. The long-running game – now in its 85th year! – will see the Big 12 champions take on the SEC champions at the Superdome. The days leading up to the game will be filled with free fan events including pep rallies, performances, and parades. For the second year in a row, fans might find themselves on TV as Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest will be broadcasting live from New Orleans.
