Top 5 beer festivals in Europe

Although Germany might get most of the credit for the world’s best Beer festivals, Europe has a lot more beer and wine festivals on offer that aren’t as packed as Oktoberfest. These beer fests are much more suited to families, meaning you can combine your love for sipping beer in the sun with your quality time with your family.

Altausseer Bierzelt, Austria

Complete with dirndls and lederhosen, this small and intimate version of Oktoberfest is, perhaps surprisingly, perfect for families. The festival is a three day event on the first weekend of September.  Held in the friendly and sleepy hamlet of Altaussee, it gives you the opportunity to experience a very local equivalent of Oktoberfest surrounded by beautiful nature. What’s more, there’s plenty of other attractions in the area, from the huge lakes to the surrounding spas. Stay in one of our holiday parks in Styria and enjoy a relaxing family break characterised by Austrian traditions, delicious beer and stunning surroundings.

This year, the festival is on the last weekend of October. Book a stay in a holiday park near Amsterdam and enjoy the delights of the beautiful Dutch nature and the vibrant city centre.

Bruges Beer Festival, Belgium

Belgian is of course home to some of the best beers in the world. From the Trappist beers of the famous old breweries to the more modern microbreweries, good beer is an essential part of Belgium’s identity. For many beer lovers, a trip to Belgium is a pilgrimage of sorts. Bruges Beer Festival is held earlier in the year, usually in February. Besides the fact that you can spend your day wondering the medieval and mystical streets of Bruges, you can also taste some of Belgium’s best beer, fries and waffles. What’s not to love! Stay in a beautiful holiday cottage near Bruges and enjoy a wonderful holiday.

Cannstatter Volksfest, Germany

While this ‘folk festival’ is not, strictly speaking, a beer festival, many people consider it the second biggest beer festival after Oktoberfest. It opens in the last week of September with the traditional keg tapping ceremony and goes on for three weeks. Located in Stuttgart, there are plenty of attractions to explore, include fairground rides, traditional markets, a parade and fireworks. There’s even a miniature Alpine Village and a French Village. Stay in one of our holiday parks near Stuttgart and enjoy a few days of traditional German beer festival during your holiday in Germany.
