What's your definition of "Free"?

A few days back I was looking at a Cruise for one of my passengers on Oceania's ship Riviera.

Firstly we looked at booking Oceania's Fly Cruise package. Then to ensure we were getting the best deal we looked at the cruise only option as we had some air miles to trade in. The cruise only option came in around £300 cheaper.

Now there's no surprise that buying cruise only would be cheaper than booking a fly cruise as this is standard for most cruise lines but what is frustrating is Oceania advertise their sailings as having "FREE FLIGHTS".

I queried this with Oceania and their explanation was they offer "FREE FLIGHTS" on all their sailing then give clients an air credit back if they don't take the flight option.

This still left me scratching my head, according to the dictionary the definition of free means "Without cost or payment" so I find it hard to see where the "FREE FLIGHTS" element comes in to it, you either pay for them or you don't!

Don't get wrong Oceania are an excellent brand, their ships are beautiful and they are top of the charts when it comes to food and service on board.

I just wish they would make their pricing clear so people can easily see what they are getting for their money.

At the moment Royal Caribbean are running a campaign with  free flights on selected 2015 sailings which are proving hugely popular and guess what? There's no catch they really are free!!
