Why have a glass when you can have the bottle.

Tags: wine

A little tip for those of you that enjoy a nice Wine at dinner. When you cruise it is much better to order a bottle rather than a glass of wine as it works out cheaper. Don’t worry if you can’t finish the bottle and just want the one glass as if you tell the waiter he will store it for you for the next night. I brought the wine package offer onboard Royal Caribbean where I could pick the wine of my choice and enjoy it over the course of my 12 nights sailing. On the nights where one glass was enough it worked perfectly and made it a very easy, enjoyable experience.
On-board drinks prices can be pricey sometimes so it is always worth checking to see if you can take your own wine on board as some ships allow passengers a limited amount of wine on embarkation day. I personally would say don’t bother trying to buy wine at ports of call as all bags will be scanned as you get back on board by security and can be confiscated.  This means that there will be a delay and a queue for ages to get it back on day of disembarkation. Also just be aware that if you do take wine on board some lines can charge you a corkage fee so don’t be surprised if this is added to your on board account.

The other option would be to opt for a line where drink is all included such as the likes of Crystal cruise and an option to even choose two bottles of spirits complimentary to keep in your cabin. Azamara are another good one where they include wine, beer and spirits so it takes the worry away of the big bar bill at the end of your cruise.

To check the lines policy before you go is usually the best bet and this way it will save any embarrassment of being stopped in front of other guests on arrival day and starting your cruise off on the wrong step.
