Many people including the social media users have been so emotional upon knowing the fate on these 3 innocent dogs that were brutally tortured by a heartless person named Alfred Alindao, a sitio neighboring resident of Talisay who poured sulfuric acid to the animal’s body. Unfortunately, the dogs were not able to survive and died last Thursday and Friday respectively.

The barbaric incident was happened on Monday (June 3) in sitio Bontores Upper Mohon, Talisay City of the Philippines.

Without any hesitation, Alfred faced and admitted the dog acid pouring complaints filed by the local residents against him to the barangay. Although the issue was already settled with local residents of sitio Day-as which Alfred signed a statement and made promise by not doing harm again to any dogs are inexcusable to face the Republic Act (RA) 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

“Won’t do it again” is not an assurance that he won’t do it again. Justice should be served! one comment read on CSDC fanpage. Cebu South Dog Club, a local non-profit group of dog lovers which serves also to protect against animal cruelty.

“He is back in his home, and is a threat to dogs in the area, I might add,” CSDC secretary Gerald Cabinatan said.
Mohon barangay captain Dario Villaver said he was told by Alindao that he and his wife were chased by these dogs which motivate him to pour sulfuric acid on these dogs.

According to almost all concerned citizens and certain groups like the Cebu South Dog Club that this statement of Alfred is unbelievable and irrelevant based on the wounds inflicted by the dogs. Alindao is simply trying to fabricate different story in his favor.

An action like this would cost him at all.
Aside from Cebu South Dog Club (CSDC), the Island Rescue Organization (IRO) and Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) showed their willingness to file necessary legal actions on the perpetrator. Even the newly elected local government administration of Talisay City eagerly also to file their own case regarding this.

This action would help the public to educate themselves about the Republic Act (RA) 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. If that happen, there will be no more abuse animals in the near future. They deserve to be treated with all respect and be loved the way humans do.

Under the current Republic Act (RA) 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, offenders are punishable with a minimum of 6 months and a maximum not more than 2 years imprisonment or a fine of Php 1,000 to Php 5,000 or both at the court’s discretion.
A yet to approve House Bill 6893 will strengthen RA 8485 in giving steeper penalties to almost as twice as the current with a maximum of 2 years imprisonment and a fine of Php 100,000 if the maltreated animal dies.
