Renukoot, a place located in the south-east corner of Uttar Pradesh in India is surrounded by Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar within the range of 100 Kms. Some of the other popular places located near are Anpara, Renusagar, Shaktinagar, Allahabad and Varanasi.

Coming to the reason for its name, since it is located near Renu river, so has been given the name Renukoot, same applies to Renusagar, a nearby place. Rihand Dam which is located only 1.5 Km from here is the main source of electricity for all the nearby places and the popular industries that grow here. This dam is built over Rihand river, a tributary of Son River. Sonebhadra is the powerhouse of Uttar Pradesh since it has good number of industries in the district.

It has some beautiful Temples such as Radha Krishna Temple, Renukeshwar Temple, Vaishno Devi Temple, Parad Shivling, Van Devi, Hanuman Mandir and Ram Mandir.

Renukoot, has some popular visiting spots for fun, the major among them are Wyndham fall, Chilka lake, Lekhania Darri, Vidhya Nagar, Chandra Prabha Sanctuary, Lehra etc. The major reason why this industrial town is famous is because of some big industries that are located in and around this area. The major among them are Hindalco Industries Ltd, an Aditya Birla Group company. Hindalco is India’s top industry producing Aluminium products such as foils, wires vessels and others. The other major industry located is National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC) Obra, which utilizes the best of the dam to produce electricity and is among the top Thermal Power Plants. The Other Industries located nearby are Aditya Birla Carbon, Chemical Plant and J.P. cement – Dala.
