Important Historical Places One Must Visit in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh

The name Jhansi is enough to arouse patriotic feelings in the heart of every Indian citizen. Looking at the historical events that took place in our modern history, Jhansi is one of the most historically pleasing cities in India. The Jhansi fortress is said to be the official residence of the Chandela dynasty starting from 11th century till late 17th century. This is a mesmerizing fort located on the top of a hill in the middle of Jhansi, beholding the breathtaking view of the entire city and the horizon. Its granite walls seem to be unbreakable which is undoubtedly a human marvel made centuries ago. The unavoidable reason for you to Visit this fort is that the living quarters of Rani Laxmi Bai are in the premises of this Fort which now has been turned into a museum. It is best recommended to visit the Fort around the months of January through February during the Jhansi Mahotsav.

  1. The Government Museum

Next up on our list is the Government Museum in Jhansi. India is gem with rich culture, must-see architectural places, but mostly the archaeological gems. This museum is one of the most eligible examples to prove the same. This enormous museum has wonderful paintings, age-old weapons, manuscripts from time unknown and beautifully carved sculptures from the Chandela Dynasty as well as the Gupta Dynasty. These archeological collections are of great value and knowledge for one and all. The Chirgaon is a little far away from Jhansi, but definitely worth a visit in order to learn the history behind Jhansi. Chirgaon holds on to the history of our ancient India, the temples, and remains of ancient civilizations. It is hard not to pay a visit to this tiny village located on the outskirts of Jhansi. It is one of the best ways to taste the ancient culture of India. The best time to visit around this town is supposedly from mid-October when the weather is not too hot or humid.

  1. Maharaja Gangadhar Rao ki Chatri

As the name suggests, this place has been dedicated to the late kind of Jhansi who ruled during the late 19th century. It is said that this Cenotaph was built by Rani Laxmi Bai for her husband in 1853 in order to pay a tribute to her late King. It is also located within the premises of the Jhansi Fort. The special thing to note about this monument is the fact that it has been made keeping in mind the typical Marathi style.
