50 Opportunities to work abroad, 50 Options to stay off the beaten path

Tags: travel job mexico

Today we celebrate our hundredth article. So what would be more appropriate to publish something suitable to thematize the Top100 of something… We could write about the best 100 countries, 100 most affordable destinations or 100 goals for 2018, 2019 or whatever.

But to be honest: How helpful would it be to name you so many different destinations when you can’t reach one of these places or even the end of this article due to the length? Here we collected some ideas or suitable ways to reach all these goals via the art of slow Travel. We came to the solution and thought 50 would be a great choice.  With this summary of top 50 ways to work and travel abroad you’ll get an interesting overview of waht you can expect out there.

Pack your seven things and go on an adventure!

01. Work and Travel

After the turn of the millennium, Work & Travel established itself as a hype for those travellers (mainly Europeans) who were interested to work and travel around Australia. It’s still really affordable and some people start a new life overthere. Bilateral relations flourished between Australia and Germany and other European countries and therefore young people from both continents got the change to gain work experience abroad. Also Canada and New Zealand are great Working Holiday destinations, even Chile or Argentina.

02. Au Pair

Definetly the most traditional way to work abroad. Males do au pair jobs as well, but there are mainly girls who are gaining some great language skills and self confidence abroad. The wealth of experience is certainly huge and immersing yourself in a culture could hardly be more great. Typical au pair stay destinations are England, France or the USA, even Australia or South America become quite popular. The environment will be a familiar one, and as a result strong relationships with host families will be build up over time.

03. Daytrading

From a financial point of view, daytrading can be the riskiest form, but also one of the most lucrative in making money on the road. A very fundamental knowledge is necessary and you should be constantly adjusted to changes and innovations. The corresponding knowledge takes time and will. With the right skills and the right attitude, you can definitely bring it very far in the business. If you’re really good at it, you can even benefit from it all the time and get more than a normal living.

04. Dive Instructor

Mexico, Thailand and Egypt are the most popular spots for diving enthusiasts.

Therefore many travelers in these countries gain the opportunity to find work as a diving instructor.

In Playa de Carmen they offered me certified Scuba Diving Curses for EUR 200-300.

This should of course include a lot of expertise in terms of diving technology, group dynamics, guiding experience, first aid and the protection of the native underwater fauna.

05. Uber Driver

Maybe you are not yet abroad and you are still looking for an additional way to increase your salary?

Thanks to the booming startup industry there is one of worldwide leading companies and any driver can participate. Taxi was yesterday, Uber is in nowadays the most usual form to deliver innercity transport service. And theoretically, anyone with an own vehicle could participate and be paid to drive people from A to B.

In Mexico, I used an Uber every night for nearly a year.

I always had nice conversations with the people who drove me home. Their statement was always that many people could leave their old jobs thanks to Uber. Hardly anyone works more in a classically bad paid job. Probably not the nicest job but still a good ON THE ROAD opportunity.

06. Timesharing as Friend

There is a page called Rent a Friend and on this page you can share your own time and get paid for it. Especially in times of too much digitization you want to have a direct unknown counterpart in front of you. To be paid for it is probably better.

07. Classical Job Match in a different environment

After becoming friends with some people from the Philippines, I got asked how it would be possible to find jobs in and around Europe. They got a visa permit for the Schengen Area and were really interested to land a English-speaking job soon. I’ve noticed that even the classic job boards with familiar customer service jobs are often a good idea for many who may not want to go too far from their usual work environment. Sometimes it would be just sufficient to change the environment or setting. Through the site I found some job offers in Malta, Portugal, Ireland, but even in Mexico. It’s a great source and I did once a job.

Multilingual Vacancies

08.Work and Wildlife Ranger

For those who are interested in Africa’s wilderness: How about living there as a ranger?

From reading tracks, survival skills to guiding expeditions through the wilderness: A ranger training requires a lot of you and is probably a bit expensive at first glance. But this is a life investment, because you are learning forever.

Safarifrank

Gameranger

09. Beach Inspector

Checking out the beaches regarding terrain, infrastructure or bathing quality. This may sound a bit strange at first, but there is an opportunity to work as Beach Inspector. If you are willing to travel and have a certain ability to write and express well in words, this would be an option for you.

Beach Inspector

10. Be a Travelmaster guide people on your created trip

For me personally, this job sounds perfect:

  • Setting your own itinerary on budgeted cost.
  • Finding interested people
  • Leading groups around the world
  • Being paid for it

This sounds like a business idea for which you need a very high advertising budget. Not anymore, Travelsation has a great solution for it. A few weeks ago, I came across this startup idea from Germany and I have unfortunately found this nowhere else.

Unfortunately, you would need German skills so far. But maybe you can find something similar in your country. Andi t would be great that you let me know

Travelsation

11. Teach English or any other language oversea

One of the classics next to Au Pair and/or Work & Travel.

A wonderful option for those who want to provide a specific problem solution: teaching a language to someone who is really driven to learn it. Just go oversea and teach English in Thailand, Vietnam and China!

In these Asian countries there is is mainly a demand for native English speakers, for outsiders (e.g., French, German, Spanish native speakers) it seem to be harder to land a jobs in this area of the world.

Alternatively, there are Online Teacher pages in the World Wide Web, which we will also mention later.

On the other hand, in seems to be easier to go and ask directly on the spot to land a English teaching job, also then when you’re not native speaker. You can also participate and teach your own language.

For example Spanish, French and German are highly demanded. German seems to be more required in Latin America as English.

12. Mountain Guide

Even tried it out and I highly recommend it. It is worthwhile in the mountainous regions of the world. I have earned $ 50 a day in Bolivia and can only recommend to ask the small organizers rather than the big companies.

Where you should ask:

Project Himalaya

Suedamerica Tours

G Adventures

13. Tour Director / Tour Guide

Tour Directors guide people through a country or region, while tour guides are often in one place only (mainly cities). For the job as tour director, you should be able to participate in a certain certification in any case.

I can recommend this:

International Guide Academy

14. Flight Hacker

If you have any idea how to find the best flight deals, then an office job at Holiday Pirates, Holiday Pirates or Guru de Viaje might be the best choice for you. Of course, you are one of many applicants and you should go through the classical application process. These companies belong to the best companies in the tourism industry and have very good conditions and benefits.

If a solid office job is not for you, but you are still interested in the matter, then check out these pages.

My second and greatest passion besides travel itself: Travel Writing. I really adore Lonely Planet and the whole philosophy of their writers. But how can you earn money yourself with travel writing?

Try it out here:

Matador is interesting for those who speak French, Spanish and Portuguese as well. German content seems to be added soon.

16. Join Q&A sites

Search engines are also reaching limits. If you have a specific question that is so specific that the search results are not informative. What could we do? Humans are still more knowledgeable.

The remedy is provided by so-called Q & A sites. You can register and earn money with a subject where you are really good in. Earn with your own expertise in one or more areas.

JustAnswer

or Ether

are pages you should check out.

17. Bla Bla Driver

I use this company BlaBlaCar regularly. Not as a driver, but as a passenger. Yesterday, during my trip from Belgium to Germany, I met the friendliest driver ever and he was thrilled with the idea of this BlaBlaCar startup. What could be better than having a friendly conversation while driving, and the others are even paying the cost of the trip? With BlaBlaCar you make a virtue out of necessity.

18. Become Travel Content Writer

Nearly identical to the job of the Travel Writer. There are various Content Writer pages and you’ll write however short texts with up to 500 words for other Freelancers, Blogger or companies as well. There are some requirements like special keywords, but with good writing skills it’s easy money. The best advantage is to work independently of location. For example, TripsByTips

specializes in the tourism industry as a content provider and anyone with writing skills can sign up. The advantage here is quite clear that they are looking for copywriters with different national backgrounds.

It’s the best option to ask directly, otherwise you should check jobboards in nearby hostels or via Internet.

There are statistics saying that virtual assistants are up to 12 % happier then in a classical 9-to-5 work environment where they even get no coffee for free. In their own favourite environment they can work from anywhere instead. There isn’t nearly anything that virtual assistants can’t do remotely in our days. There are better paid jobs, but it is more than enough to live really affordable in South America, Eastern Europe or Asia for example.

Here is an example for US-based jobs Virtualassistants

My favourite source is that one and it is also interesting for people who are from the States, but different countries as well  Flexjobs.
