Romantic Weekend Getaways from Adelaide

South Australia is full of amazing destinations and Adelaide city is no exception. It really is an ideal location if you’re looking for a romantic winter getaway with plenty of wet weather timetable activities on offer from wine tasting to strolling along the beach or through the city’s gardens. Adelaide city has a pumping restaurant and bar culture and some pretty epic art galleries, but if you’re wanting to venture out of the CBD this winter, we’ve put together a few romantic getaways that are perfect for the colder climate.

Visit the Fleurieu Peninsula

Described as the ‘creative’ hub of South Australia, the Fleurieu Peninsula is less than 1.5 hours’ drive from Adelaide city. There’s plenty of opportunity to immerse yourself in the Fleurieu culture from meet and greets with the native wildlife at the national parks, to eating and drinking the mouth-watering local produce. It’s ideal for a romantic getaway, or if you’re just looking to get away from Adelaide city for a short break!

Port Elliot

Small and coastal, this town is less than 1.5 hours from Adelaide city. It’s quiet and so ideal for a romantic short break with your better half. Spot koalas at the wildlife park, trek along the coast or visit the local museum. Whatever you decide, you’re guaranteed to feel rested after some quiet time.

Mt Gambier

Not necessarily a stones throw away, but worth the jump! Mt Gambier is just over 4.5 hours’ drive from Adelaide city and has many attractions, excellent shopping, entertainment and rare natural formations worthy of exploration. The famous ‘Blue Lake’ is nestled in a volcanic crater and is known for its dramatic colour changes throughout the year. The Cave Garden in the centre of the city has been created in a large sink hole and is a sight to be seen. Stunning rose gardens are lovingly tended and viewing platforms around the rim offer magnificent views of this one off attraction.

Port Augusta

Located 3.5 hours drive from Adelaide city (or a 55 minute flight), Port Augusta is perfect for a romantic getaway. There are plenty of experiences and activities on offer. From visiting the Rainbow Serpent in Wadlata to strolling through the Botanic gardens, this place is the perfect way to get connected with nature and experience some Australian nature!
