5 Must Visit Places in Jodhpur

Jodhpur is a well known metropolitan city in Rajasthan. It is popularly referred to as the Sun City. This is because the first rays of sun hit the land here. Jodhpur was built by Rao Jodha in 1459 and therefore the name Jodhpur. The palaces and forts which you see here are simply amazing. The city carries a blue hue as most of the houses and building are painted in blue color. This royal city has several tourist hot spots which are listed below:

Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort is one of the most sought after places in Jodhpur. This huge fort stands at a height of 400 feet above the city. Rao Jodha completed the construction the fort in 1459 AD. As the fort took quite a lot of time to complete you will see glimpses of various styles of architecture here. This symbol of power has an awe-inspiring architecture which will surely impress you.

Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum

It took a lot of time to build Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum. The construction began in 1929 and got completed in 1943. It is situated at the highest point in the city. There are 347 rooms in the palace making it one of the biggest private residences in the world. Part of palace serves as the residence of the erstwhile Royal family and a part is converted into Taj Palace Hotel and museum. The architecture of palace has both Indian and European influences.

Jaswant Thada

This was constructed in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh. It is located in close proximity to Mehrangarh Fort. It has intricate carvings in marble which are quite impressive. The place has a tranquil feel. There are a beautiful multi-level garden, pond, and gazebos located in the complex. Every area has huge portraits of the Rathore rulers which add to the grandeur of the place.

Mahamandir Temple

Mahamandire Temple built in 1812 is another popular attraction of Jodhpur city. The mandir boasts of 84 intricately carved pillars. You will see elaborate stone carving depicting different yoga postures on these pillars. On the walls, there are lovely traditional motifs. The temple is open all days of the week 5:00 A.M to 1 P.M and then from 4:00 P.M to 9:00 P.M. The temple complex has several shrines. Mahamandir Temple is at a distance of 2 km from Jodhpur.

Mandore Gardens

Mandore was a capital of Marwar rulers prior to Jodhpur.The highly beautiful Mandore Gardens draw tourists from far and wide. There is a government museum known as ‘Hall of Heroes’ which is located inside the garden. Then there is also a temple to 33 crore Gods which is the main attraction of this garden. The museum houses several artifacts as well as statues. The gardens ooze architectural magnificence of the past era.
