The best cafés of Seville 2018: by a serial café dweller and Seville local

Ahhhh, pure bliss. Just now, I finished a Jamon tostada, and took a sip of my Coffee, and I knew: today is the day you are finally going to write about the best cafés of Seville. When I say the best, I must add a disclaimer, I clearly mean my favourite, but I’d say I am a pretty good judge! If you’ve been following my writing for a while, or know me particularly well, you’ll know how I feel about a good café. I think they are magical, one of my most treasured places to be, and fertile ground for great writing and spending time with good people.

Nine months is the time I’ve lived in Seville, and in a very poetic way, we start this resource with one the of the first cafés I ever visited AND, the one I am sitting in right now: Café Hércules.

Café Hércules, Calle Peris Mencheta, 15, 41002 Sevilla

I hold Café Hércules close to my heart for many reasons: firstly, it’s the local place to be. If you like People Watching, you can enjoy Sevillanos socialising and living their everyday lives;  in fact, if you stay here for long enough and you’ll start to recognise the familiar faces, which is truly heart-warming. Secondly, you can get a very traditional breakfast (toasted bread with a topping ), plus a coffee for around €3.50 which I think is super reasonable no matter your budget! Lastly, and this is possibly the best, it serves breakfast until 2pm. So if you’ve had a late night, the promise of breakfast will still be waiting for you through the doors of Café Hércules.

Caótica, Calle José Gestoso, 8, 41003 Sevilla

Caótica = a book-lovers dream. The first thing I have to tell you is that it’s just a really beautiful to be. It’s got that hipster feel that has a guarantee to draw you in and want to snap an Instagram post to show where you are drinking your coffee this morning. On every table, a book for the visitor, on the wall to the right – books stacked high covering the entire wall, on the second floor, an entire bookstore for your perusal. To encourage real conversation, (and of course, book reading!), laptop use is restricted to certain tables and it has witty handwritten messages on the wall about times before Wi-Fi.

El Viajero Sedentario, Alameda de Hércules, 77, 41002 Sevilla

In this café, we continue the book-lovers theme. Aside from being a fully-functioning café with coffee and cakes, it has many books for you to peruse and is also home to many open mic nights in both English and Spanish. This is actually the location I did my first-ever poetry reading (eek). Here, you will find a good mix of Sevillanos and expats, but most importantly, a whole lot of talent! It’s great night which you can sign up to on the night. Aside from this, with seating both outside and inside, this is a good place for you to come for a ‘coffee n chat’ with a friend.

(I don’t have a picture, but it is very pretty)

Torch Coffee Roasters, Ave. Paseo de las Delicias, 3, 41001 Sevilla

Without being an expert on coffee, my foodie friend with a fabulous food blog, tells me this is the best coffee in town. Roasting their own coffee beans on site, I always notice the difference, and genuinely, if you need a strong coffee to help fuel your explorations of this beautiful city, I strongly recommend coming here! They, keeping up the standard of the rest of the cafés I have mentioned in this post have homemade cakes and a very good breakfast.

KÖK Tu Cocina, Calle San Luis, 46, 41003 Sevilla

I left the brunch until last. This is the place you come when you want the champions of the breakfast: eggs. I come here for bacon, eggs, and fresh pancakes, although everything I see come out of the kitchen looks stunning! And when I say out of the kitchen, I am referring to the centre of the café, as they cook the food in the open. The reason why they are one of my favourite cafés, is that they take so much pride in their food quality and presentation, and as a foodie, I can have nothing but respect and appreciation for that! Plus, they have some of the best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted.

If you’ve stumbled across this resource before your trip to Seville, lucky you! You don’t have to waste your time in not-so-nice places. Connect with me on Instagram if you’ve found this useful. Until next time, #keepwading.
