Five reasons to bring your kids to Four Seasons Punta Mita

As I watched two kids build sandcastles in the surf, I sipped a margarita while a friendly hotel employee filled the cooler in our cabana with ice. My expectations of Four Seasons were met once again with a visit to this property. The property itself and the beach is very swimmable – unusual for this area of Mexico – and the family friendly aspect gives people a compelling reason to bring kids to Four Seasons Punta Mita.

We arrived to a beautiful entryway, as all Four Seasons Resorts have. Pretty cobblestones, a soaring porte cochere, and spraying fountains. A friendly and polite greeting is your first experience and your bags are taken away for delivery to your room. The check-in process includes a glass of Champagne (yes!) and chips and salsa! It was such a great greeting after our drive from up the coast.

Because our room was not available at the earlier hour, we settled in at the beach front restuarant, Bahia, for a light lunch and some margaritas….because Mexico. The views from Bahia are spectacular and it was unbelievably relaxing and the perfect welcome. Once our room was ready, the restaurant was informed and we were whisked to our room in a golf cart. The property is quite large and, while it can be walked, taking a golf cart is the quicker, cooler way to go. It was really hot and we wanted to get to our room.

We weren’t disappointed when we arrived. A beautiful room decorated in classic Four Seasons style – modern, clean lines and simplicity, combined with the decadence of plush towels, amazing amenities, rich woods and classic wall art. The rooms have a decidedly Mexican feel overall, but at the same time keep in tradition with modern Four Seasons style. We had an ocean view casita and the view was amazing. Rooms run the range of casita to one- and two-bedroom suites with plunge pools to private residences for larger families. The five bedroom residence is simply amazing and well suited for a large family reunion.

Which brings me to the five reasons families should bring their kids to Four Seasons Punta Mita!

The beaches

We’ve been long time fans of Quinatana Roo in Mexico because the beaches are, mostly, calm water. Easy to be near with children without worry they will be swept away by a wave! The beaches within Four Seasons are fairly calm and there were plenty of kids and families in the water. One of the main reasons we don’t go to to Cabo is because the water and riptides are just plain scary with kids. But fear not at Four Seasons. Although there were some waves, there were plenty of places to play with kids – people were even paddle-boarding and snorkeling in certain areas. The beaches are perfectly comfortable with kids. To top if off – they’re well located. Near the pools, in case your child randomly changes their mind (which has been know to happen with kids), plenty of chairs and cabanas without being too overwhelming and one beach even has a little ice cream shop next to the beach. Cute as can be.

The Kid’s Clubs

Four Seasons are long known for fantastic kid’s clubs and Punta Mita is no exception. Known as Kids for All Seasons, the club is open from 9 to 5 and babysitting off hours is also available. It has a great building and playground, art classes, hiking outings and water sports. And the best part? It’s complimentary. In addition, the resort has a teen program for kids ages 13 to 18 and it includes video games, outdoor activities and movie nights. The whole area where the kid’s club is located is so great. Decorated exactly as a kid would have it.

The Overall Amenities

The Four Seasons Punta Mita not only has the fantastic kid’s clubs, it’s really well laid out and has so much to offer a family. Hammock chairs are hanging from trees, large areas to throw a football and cultural activities all add up to the perfect family resort. Fancy a game of Uno with your kids? Head to the Shack, a totally laid back bar right near the beach. Want your kiddos to feel special? Four Seasons always has kid’s welcome gifts and child sized bathrobes upon arrivals. It’s no secret that Four Seasons Resorts are expensive, but considering what you get for that rate makes the rate worth it for many families. Kids bathrobes, kid’s welcome gifts, included kid’s club, children’s menus in all restaurants, not to mention complimentary basketball, smashball, beach tennis, kayaking, arts and crafts and t-shirt painting. There are so many things included in the overall experience of Four Seasons Punta Mita.

The Lazy River

What kid doesn’t love a lazy river?? Our kids have specifically asked for either a water slide or a lazy river on several occasions when we’ve been planning a family trip. What I liked most about the lazy river at this resort was that it was tucked away and very subtle. It wasn’t out in the main areas of the resort, which does annoy many people – nothing like trying to relax at a pool with screaming children around! The lazy river is separate but not far at all. It’s tucked behind some shrubs and you really don’t even notice it, unless you are looking for it. We love lazy rivers. So fun and not a crazy time, but more of a relaxing time for families to hang out. And it’s pretty and blends into the environment.

Stargazing with the Cultural Concierge

The cultural concierge at Punta Mita is there to provide, well, culture! We really try to learn about the culture wherever we visit with the kids and the Mexican culture really holds a special place in our heart. The cultural concierge is there specifically to provide language lessons, arts and crafts, nature walks and, best of all, stargazing! One of the reasons we love camping is because of the amazing stars and the Punta Mita area is dark enough to really see stars. The concierge is happy to point out constellations and teach kids how to spot them. By the way, did I mention there’s also surfing lessons, scuba clinics and fishing experiences? The list is endless at this resort.

We really consider the resort an important part of the experience of our vacation and I can’t recommend bringing your kids to Four Seasons Punta Mita enough. Pools, beaches and kid activities all add up to a fantastic trip. Punta Mita is now on our list of places to go back to!
