10 family activities at Montage Palmetto Bluff

Finding 10 family activities at Montage Palmetto Bluff was easy, considering how much the resort has to offer. You can easily find ten things and more at this beautiful resort located 30 minutes from Savannah,Georgia. Built on 20,000 acres, this resort is huge and lies right near the May River. 3 days definitely is not long enough for a visit!

Start your day with a bike ride

Montage has bicycles for the whole Family to rent. If you stay in one of the cottage suites, two bikes are included in the room. The grounds of Palmetto Bluff are stunning. Wide trails winding through forests of old oak trees, Spanish moss and rivers. It’s fun to spend the morning biking with the family and then arriving back at the resort for a delicious lunch.

Try your hand at shooting sporting clay targets

Hunting and shooting has been a tradition in the Palmetto Bluff area for years. The shooting club teaches about shooting safety and helps you hit the moving target. All levels are welcome and the club has instructors who really help. It’s surprisingly fun, even for people like me, who had never even held a gun. And it’s harder than it looks. The whole family can partake, but they recommend kids be at least 8.

Pool time!

There are several pools available at Montage, but the family friendly pool is right near the main inn and beautiful! Large, with plenty of chairs and cabanas, it overlooks the river and gives a family a true southern experience. If mom and dad need some non kid time, send the kiddos to the kid’s club, Paintbox, and spend some time at one of the adults only pools.

Play some board games on the screened in porch off the lobby

Right off the lobby and close to Buffaloes Restaurant, is a beautiful screened-in porch overlooking the grounds and the river. Screened in porches are a true southern experience and what’s better than a family board game? Sometimes ours end up with screaming and crying children but mostly they’re fun.

Spend an early evening bowling

A family bowling experience doesn’t get much better than this! Only 4 lanes, this bowling alley is super exclusive and private. Right across from Cole’s Restaurant and located in the Moreland Village area of Palmetto Bluff, the bowling alley is perfect for an early evening, followed by dinner at Cole’s. There are even servers to bring drinks while you bowl!

Make some S’mores!

This is a tradition that our family loves. S’mores! Every evening  outside the River House, Montage has a S’mores making station with all the fixings. An adorable little portable station right by a huge fire pit that’s so big, you can even sit on the side with your feet on the inside by the fire. So warm and toasty. And delicious.

Spend an afternoon on The Grace

The Grace is Montage’s yacht, which travels the May river every day and is available for private events such as Sunday brunches and wine tastings. This pretty little yacht is one of the last examples of the early gas-powered yachts before World War 1 and she’s 100 years old! If you’re lucky, you may even see dolphins! This is one of the best family activities at Montage Palmetto Bluff.

Take a family day trip to Savannah or Hilton Head

Craving a little shopping or beach time? Montage is located about 1/2 hour from beaches, but they are easily accessible. Daily boat trips leave for both the beach and Savannah – shopping time perhaps? There is so much history in these parts and the resort can show you everything. Take a little break from resort activities and go into town! Savannah is so beautiful.

Experience the Montage Treehouses

The Palmetto Bluff grounds have two treehouses – one in the Moreland Village area and one in the marsh near Moreland. Both are fantastic! Tall treehouses, wooden boardwalks, rope latters and a zip line. Hammocks are right near the trees for mom and dad to relax in. When we were there, every child we encountered was talking about the treehouses and who can blame them?

Spend an afternoon playing Bocce Ball and learn the art of Porching

Bocce ball is something the whole family can play together. And right near the bocce ball games is River House. What’s important about River House? Why the screened in porch and ‘porching’ every afternoon, of course. Sitting and socializing on a porch, while sitting tea or lemonade and sampling some cookies. Or sipping wine in my case.

Montage Palmetto Bluff is truly a unique experience that I wasn’t really even aware of until we went. We’ve never been to a resort that had this many activities. Although the resort doesn’t have a traditional beach, it didn’t bother us one bit. We were too busy having fun. Family activities at Montage Palmetto Bluff are easy to fine and fun to do.

P.S. There’s much more to do than these ten things! This barely scratches the surface! For more information on traveling to Montage, email me at [email protected].
