Musings: 5 Reasons Why Compromise is Key To Any Relationship

“Every day there is a compromise. Living with somebody requires a lot of understanding. But I love being married. I really love it. Sometimes I try to downplay it a bit because people are like, ‘God you guys.’ I just feel so fortunate that I have found someone who will put up with me and stay with me.”
Nicole Kidman

What is compromise you ask?

Why is it important in a relationship?

When it comes to a relationship, whether it be romantic, friendship, family or business, Compromise is key. Especially when you involve a financial element. Sometimes decisions are equal but most of the time, they’re not.

A little more on finances…

Ferratum have provided some interesting stats when it comes to matters of the heart and finances. I’ve commented in red

  • More women (38%) would take profession into account when considering a partner compared to men (30%). Agreed but it’s not a given.

  • Only 26% of women are comfortable with sharing details of their finances within the first 3 months of a relationship, versus a whopping 45% of men. I wouldn’t get this personal this soon)

  • 46% of men would also be fine with sharing details of their personal spending habits, whereas 68% of women keep their lips sealed. No one needs to know what I spend my money on *cough* Uber.

  • 40% of women would not have a joint savings account with their partner because they do not trust them enough, compared to 11% of men. I wouldn’t want a Joint Savings Account with a partner either, not that I have trust issues… well I do but I’m all about keeping your accounts separate.

Or you could just view this interesting infographic which sums it up too.

Here are my 5 reasons why compromise is key to any relationship…

Trust

When it comes to any decision, whether it be finance or ordering food, trust is key.

Communication

If you don’t communicate how will you even attempt to compromise? I always find verbal communication is best.

Honesty

Of course, you have to trust your partner, friend or family member to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Being Selfless

Compromise represents being selfless. You can’t have your way all the time and its important to take into consideration another person’s feelings.

Balance

Compromise is all about give and take.

Its all about being honest and upfront when it comes to finances.
