The World's Tallest Trees of Redwood National Park

Located along the coast of Northern California are the Redwood National and State Parks which are home to the tallest trees on Earth. These parks protect nearly half of the world’s coast redwoods that can grow up to an incredible height of over 350 feet. The Redwood National Park works in partnership with three state parks; Jedidiah Smith, Del Norte Coast and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Together they offer tourists vast expanses of lush land, grassy prairies, river beds and beaches to explore while being continually awed by these tall Redwood wonders rising all over.

Redwood National Park:

The trip to this living skyscraper land can start with Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center which has several exhibits and a film on redwood ecology besides access to a beach. From here you can reach the Klamath River Overlook with a five mile drive. The view point is 650 feet above sea level and is at the confluence of the fresh water river and the Pacific Ocean. It is a good vantage spot to view migrating whales and the spectacular waves. You can proceed on the coastline along the Coastal Drive and stop to see the radar station. You can also bike up the mountain along this coast if you are feeling adventurous. Another viewpoint is the High Bluff Overlook which is ideal for a picnic stop while getting a chance to spot marine life bobbing in and out of the sea like the whales, sea lions and sea birds on the shore rocks. The Redwood Park is also full of hiking trails that wind through the redwood trees of the forest, lovely variety of fauna and stops at the beaches.

Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park:

With some of the most scenic redwood trees in its vicinity, the Jedidiah Smith Park has very less hiking trails owing to its dense and uninterrupted growth. It is suited for camping and has some lovely camping sites close to the river and in the midst of the tall redwood trees.

Del Norte Coast Redwood State Park:

Most popular for its hiking trails and camping sites, the Del Norte Park also has many scenic picnic spots all set along the mighty Pacific Ocean. Some of the more favorite stops are Wilson Creek for splendid ocean views and the Damnation Creek Trail, Coastal Trail for spectacular hikes and the Mill Creek Campground which is the largest within the Redwood National Park.

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park:

This 14,000-acre park is an epitome of everything large and green. The rainforest with ferns crossing over mossy trails and rocks, carpets of redwood leaves under the soaring trees and spotting of the Roosevelt elks are some of the charms of this park. Prairie Creek’s Visitor Center, Elk Prairie, Trillium Falls Trail, Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway and Gold Bluffs Beach are but some of the many places that make Prairie Creek Redwoods a gem.
