Kumbh Mela 2019 in Allahabad – Largest Pilgrimage in the World

On January 15, 2019, the city of Allahabad, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, is considered the largest pilgrimage in the world. The Kumbh Mela 2019 waits to cleanse your sins and immerse you in a dimension that will change everything forever.

Kumbh Mela 2019: crossing to the other side

Legend has it that, once, the gods and demons obtained a substance called amrita , the one considered as the nectar of immortality extracted from the milkshake of the milk ocean. However, the demons were too greedy and decided to steal the pot that contained the elixir. It would be after a fight by both sides when some drops fell on Earth, more specifically in four places: Haridwar, Ujjain, Nasik and Allahabad , city where two sacred rivers of India such as the Ganges and the Yamuna converge  .

Centuries later, the Kumbh Mela (or Festival of the Sacred Pit) is considered the greatest pilgrimage in the world . An event that brings together more than 100 million people who come to the banks of the river to bathe in the fords, areas of low height considered as bridges between the Earth and the world of the gods, where they can purify their fish.

A celebration at the height of Holi or Diwali during which an unprecedented deployment is made in India to security and accommodation, as different tents are erected within a radius of 30 square kilometers to accommodate all those faithful who come looking for their own version of the faith.

The Kumbh Mela 2019 in Allahabad begins on January 15 and will run until March 4. A date that will begin with the first dip of those known as shadus , penitent men who are responsible for opening the way to the rest of the pilgrims through the waters. This is the Kumbh Mela 2019 calendar:

January 15, 2019 (Makar Sankranti): Reverence to the deity Surya or god of the Sun.

January 21, 2019 (Paush Purnima): Ceremony during which people plunge into the river in a massive way taking advantage of the presence of the full moon.

February 4, 2019 (Mauni Amavasya): Also known as the Day without Moon, this day passes under a meditative silence.

February 10, 2019 (Basant Panchami): Day dedicated to the goddess of knowledge, music and the arts, symbolizing creative energy in all its forms.

February 19, 2019 (Maghi Purnima): Taking advantage of this full moon day, various water ceremonies are performed, such as the well-known Yajna .

March 4, 2019 (Maha Shivratri): This day tribute is paid to Lord Shiva by chanting Vedic mantras.
