Chile’s Interesting and Edible “Living Rocks”

In Chile, there are “living rocks” that contain Clear Blood and can be eaten. These rocks are actually sea creatures, called pyura chilensis, that look exactly like a Rock with guts inside. It is even completely immobile like a rock. It eats by sucking in water and filtering out microorganisms; and its’ clear blood secretes a rare mineral called vanadium.

What’s more interesting is that the creature is born male and becomes hermaphroditic at puberty. It reproduces by tossing clouds of sperm and eggs into the surrounding water, hoping they will knock together. And last but not least, apparently you can also eat this sea creature as well  – and oddly enough – people have said that it is quite delicious! This “dish” can be found off the coast of Chile, and it’s either eaten raw or in a stew. If you found a place that serves this dis, and  you have tried it, please leave a comment and let us know!
