LG V20 announcement set for September 6th

LG V20 Announcement Set For September 6th

We’ve been hearing that the LG V20 Announcement could come in September (as opposed to October last year with the V10) so as to help LG scoop up some sales, and we’re not surprised: Samsung, once launching the Galaxy Note lineup in September, decided to release its Galaxy Note 7 this week (the first week of August) to win over as many sales as possible from what could be yet another record year for Apple and the iPhone 7/7 Plus. LG tends to follow Samsung when it comes to these things, so it makes sense that Samsung’s Korean “rival” would follow in its footsteps once more.

LG sent out a teaser for the upcoming smartphone with the words, “Play More. The second story begins, LG V20 (San Francisco, Sep. 6, 2016).” The teaser also features a book that opens to show a number of pop-up objects that resembles a child’s storybook. The words “Play More” seems to hint that the LG V20 will bear a similar (the indicative word here is modular) to the LG G5. The modular design (or, as Evan Blass says, the not-so modular design) isn’t something that’s taken off this year, though Motorola has hit the fashionable side of things out of the park with its Moto Z and Moto Z Droid editions. Still, this is the largest hint we’ve gotten as to what the LG V20 announcement holds for LG and for its consumer base and the smartphone market.

What this means is that you can expect a removable battery (though hopefully, one that isn’t as convoluted as that of the LG G5’s), along with the same 5.7-inch, Quad HD display with 2,560 x 1,440p screen resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor instead of the Snapdragon 820 (or the hexa-core, Snapdragon 808 SoC that was housed in the V10) in current handsets like the Galaxy Note 7, along with the same 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, camera megapixel counts, with the company perhaps considering a 4,000mAh battery instead of the 3,000mAh battery found in the V10. This would certainly be a welcome change from the current battery life of the V10. The V20 would also retain the same water and dust resistance as the V10, seeing that the device is designed for element resistance.

The LG V20 announcement will also bring back the same military standard build that we’ve seen in the V10, which is part of what makes the V series a flagship. Overall, we expect that the announcement will maintain similar specs as the V10 with a focus on the modular design and the extension accessories — seeing that the company is pushing forward with its modular design. Some are hoping that the V20 will get modularity right. I have a feeling that it may, though the Moto Z may be the one whose design is heavily borrowed in this upcoming LG smartphone.
