Vampires Do Exist – They Are On Standby

Vampires Do Exist – They Are On Standby

vampire

What is a Vampire? Well…. according to Wikipedia, Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings who subsist by feeding on the life essence (generally in the form of blood) of living creatures, regardless of whether they are undead or a living person/being. Also according to mythology, vampires are able to hibernate for long periods until they are hungry. A vampire will stalk and feed on its prey thereby draining them of their blood.

Metaphorically speaking, there are real Energy sucking vampires in your home that are draining you of your energy as we speak. Many of you may be unaware of this, but these phantoms will continue draining you 24/7 and for as long as you shall live in the civilized world where you rely on power plants to supply your homes and workplaces with electricity.

Over the past ten years, I can assure you that they have drained not only your energy, but they have drained your bank account as well of at least a thousand or maybe even thousands of dollars (depending on how many electronic gadgets and gizmos you own and use).
So who or what are we talking about? Well let’s take a closer look at the real culprits.

Standby Mode

Technically speaking, any or all electronics that are capable of defaulting into a “standby mode” after being switched off, drains your energy (i.e. they are switched off but are not really powered off – and the drainage of energy qualifies the term vampire). Even though electronics in Standby Mode requires considerably less energy than when fully turned on, over time it can add up substantially.
Nowadays most of the new electronics are manufactured with a standby mode feature as a means of quick-starting the product and are the new modern day energy vampires. In other words standby mode creates soft starting capabilities for most electronics which enables them to start or to fully power on/load quickly (in a matter of 0 – 3 seconds).

The alternative would be a slower cold start/ power on experience. As most of us have experienced that it takes a TV about thirty seconds to turn on after being unplugged from it’s outlet for about 20 minutes. If it was not unplugged (in standby mode) and just switched off, it would also take about 3 seconds to power on.

Energy Vampires – The Real Culprits

Energy Vampires are the real culprits here and they come in many shapes and sizes. We live in a fast high tech world and we like our electronics to start up or turn on quickly. Nowadays these electronics are “mostly standby/ vampire mode ready” which means they will be draining energy like energy vampires, as soon as they are plugged in.

Thankfully we can also arm and protect ourselves against these energy vampires with an “electronic stake” of sorts because Energy Saving Surge protectors have standby detection capabilities. What does this mean? It means that the amount of power used by electronics plugged into these specialized outlets are monitored and the surge protector detects when a device enters vampire/ standby mode and is able to completely shut off the power to that device or assigned devices.
