Facebook and ZeniMax buried battle ax

about stolen Oculus Rift code
Facebook and ZeniMax have reached a settlement with which the legal battle ax over the Oculus Rift is buried. ZeniMax claimed that the Oculus Rift could only come about because former ZeniMax employees had stolen code and used it at Oculus.

CNBC reports that the settlement was reached on Wednesday, without any details about the settlement agreement being published. For example, it is unknown how much Oculus incorporated by Facebook in 2014 pays ZeniMax. Such a payment is obvious, since a US court in June ruled that Oculus had to pay 250 million dollars to ZeniMax . Both parties report that they are satisfied with the fact that this issue is now behind us.

The legal battle over the alleged stolen technology from ZeniMax that would have contributed to the creation of the Oculus Rift took about four years. In 2014 , ZeniMax sued Oculus because it claims to have the rights to the technology behind the Oculus Rift. ZeniMax demanded compensation of $ 6 billion from Facebook and the company also wanted hundreds of millions of dollars from Oculus technology boss John Carmack, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey and former Oculus VR director Brendan Iribe.

The role of John Carmack is crucial in this case. He was an employee of id Software, of which ZeniMax Media is the parent company. According to ZeniMax, Carmack wrote the code behind the Oculus Rift and took it to Oculus when he started working there in 2013, after his departure from id Software . Facebook bought Oculus in 2014, which involved about three billion dollars.

Facebook, Oculus and Carmack have always denied the use of code written by Carmack during the development of the Oculus Rift, something that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg once again emphasized in January 2017, during a testimony in an American courtroom. According to Zuckerberg, the technology behind the Oculus Rift was not fully developed when Facebook bought Oculus.
