_Fuchsia-OS creates tensions within Google

According to sources from the Bloomberg financial news agency, the development of the Fuchsia operating system, which should eventually replace Android, creates tensions within Google between the advertising departments and for privacy and security.

Bloomberg bases its reporting on people who are familiar with the developments within Google. According to one of these persons there has been at least one conflict between the two camps so far, because the development of the OS would go against the business model of Google. In the case cited, the advertising camp would have won, according to the source.

What exactly the privacy measures are concerned is not entirely clear. Bloomberg speaks of encrypted user keys that play a role in software updates. Fuchsia would also be better able to handle frequent security updates. Bloomberg also points out that Nick Kralevich has reported on his LinkedIn page to work on the security of Fuchsia since January, after having worked as a security lead for Android for nine years.

The sources also share information about the planning of the operating system. For example, it should run on devices as smart speakers within three years. Within five years, it must eventually also replace Android. However, no official roadmap has yet been drawn up that has been approved by CEO Sundar Pichai. He would have expressed his support internally for the project, which now involves about a hundred people. Finally, the system would be better suited than Android to support voice control of apps.

So far, information about Fuchsia has been published sporadically, after the name came out for the first time in 2016. At the beginning of this year, images of the system that appeared on a Pixelbook appeared. Fuchsia, unlike Android, does not use the Linux kernel, but Zircon .
