Google deletes option to order Uber trips via Maps

Tags: uber google map

US users can no longer request and pay Uber taxi rides directly from the Google Maps service. Why the functionality has been removed from the plan service is not known.

According to Android Police , Google has quietly removed the feature to order Uber drives from the Android app after it was previously removed from the Maps iOS app. Users can still select a destination and access the Uber app via Maps to order a trip for the route.

Google announced the integration of Uber into the Maps service in January 2017 and the company then said that they were “trying” the feature. Users had to log into Maps with their Uber account and then no longer had to have the Uber app to request trips.

It is not known whether Uber or Google has decided until the end of the collaboration. Google is working with Waymo to set up a taxi service for autonomous vehicles and the company has invested in Lypert competitor Lyft. In addition, there are longer reports that Uber is working on its own plan service.
