Tesla reaches agreement in case about ‘dangerous’ Autopilot system

Tesla has reached an Agreement whereby the company will compensate owners of the Model S and Model X who have complaints about the Autopilot system. The prosecutors claimed that the system was unstable and demonstrably dangerous.

In a statement, Tesla indicates that it will compensate customers who have had to wait longer than expected for the 2.0 version of the Autopilot software. This concerns users who purchased the $ 5,000 Autopilot upgrade between October 2016 and September 2017.

The users who claim the compensation are each reimbursed between 20 and 280 dollars, writes Reuters . To pay for the compensation and costs of the lawsuit, Tesla has set aside $ 5 million.

Tesla has been discredited several times in recent months because of problems with the Autopilot function. For example, a fatal crash took place in March during which the self-driving mode was activated and safety sensors were saved. However, Tesla itself claims that the system leads to 40 percent fewer accidents in the cars.
