WTSP users, the most widely used instant messaging application around the world, are being warned of a new fraudulent link to a site that allegedly allows the app to change color.

“You can now change and customize your favorite color,” said the letter, first spotted by a Reddit user. The recipient of the message is asked to share it with 12 friends to activate it and confirm the new color.

Once users share the message with 12 friends, they are asked to use a personal computer to ensure that the new feature works. After clicking the link in the message, they are asked to download an extension called BlackWhats from the Google Chrome Store. After downloading the BlackWhats extension, the user’s device, along with the 12 friends, is infected with malicious adware.

For its part, Google said it removed the extension from the Google Chrome store, and it is recommended to verify the link that is shared with users, it uses a mixture of Russian and English characters appears as the address of the official website on the web шһатѕарр.com.

A similar fraudulent technique has been used to deceive users of PayPal.
