Samsung plans to produce a number of models for dual-screen smart phones later this year, South Korean media reported on Wednesday.

ET News and The Investor reported in two reports that the South Korean electronics giant has already started production, and plans to manufacture between 2,000 and 3,000 units in the first half of 2017.

The two-screen smart phones will not be dedicated to consumers, but Samsung plans to make them a test base to capture the pulse of the market and the desire of consumers in such phones.

Samsung’s prototype models will be equipped with two 5-inch monitors that connect a single joint, similar to a design similar to previous dual-screen phones, such as the NEC’s Medias W N-05WE.

Samsung has long been aspiring to make a dual-screen phone, and a few years ago it presented a video of the company’s vision of dual-screen phones that can be folded and opened to work as a phone and a tablet.

The reports of the two Korean newspapers came a few days after another report published by IT Breaker said that Samsung aims to introduce a commercial product for smart phones folding by 2019.

Samsung is not the only one planning to launch a sleek smartphone. Lenovo unveiled in June a prototype of a folding smartphone that can be wrapped around the wrist, as well as another model similar to Samsung’s prototype.
