Hardware and Performance

Starting with Snapdragon 660, it packs dual-cluster octa-core CPU with four powerful Cortex-A73 cores @2.2GHz and remaining four Cortex-A53 cores clock @1.8GHz. The Snapdragon 665 uses slightly underclocked 4x Cortex-A73 cores pointed @2.0GHz and 4x Cortex-A53 at same 1.8GHz. Moving further to Snapdragon 675, the chipset also brings dual-cluster but differently constructed. It has two powerful Cortex-A76 cores clocked @2.GHz and six low-frequency Cortex-A55 cores @1.8GHz. The Snapdragon 710 follows it with 2x Cortex-A75 cores @2.2Ghz and remaining six cores @1.7Ghz.

For a fair comparison, we will divide into two parts. Firstly, coming to the CPU, there is no doubt Cortex-A76 cores used on Snapdragon 675 are latest and more powerful. But Snapdragon 710 covers it with slightly faster clock speed. On the other hands, Snapdragon 660 and 665 both are using Cortex-A73 powered CPU. These both seem to be equally good, but Snapdragon 660 has a slight edge being a higher clock speed.

One thing is worth noting that Snapdragon 660 is built on older 14nm node, while, the Snapdragon 665 and 675 use 11nm process. The Snapdragon 710 even goes one step ahead with 10nm manufacturing architecture. Undoubtedly, Snapdragon 710 is less power-hungry compared to the other three, and the worst one is Snapdragon 660. For those who just compare basis on the clock speed, power efficiency matters a lot when it comes to stability and optimal performance. In the end, Snapdragon 665 worth the upgrade and overall a better chip compared to 660.

GPU Comparison

The Snapdragon 660 pairs with Adreno 512 GPU, whereas, Snapdragon 665 has Adreno 610. It further enhanced to Adreno 612 for Snapdragon 675 and 616 for Snapdragon 710.  The Snapdragon 665 GPU gets a significant upgrade over 660 with the latest Adreno 610 GPU.Eventually, the company focuses on GPU with the latest chip, while, the older one still beats in the CPU department. The same case is the other two chipsets.

The Snapdragon 710 is holding a better GPU compared to 675, while, another one overtakes in the CPU department.  To recall, Snapdragon 675 is comparatively a newer chip, but the Snapdragon 710 belongs to an entirely new series, which focuses on the premium mid-range segment.  Hardware-wise, Snapdragon 675 and 710 are two close competitors. Definitely, Snapdragon 710 can offer a better gaming experience, while, the CPU is slightly better on 675.

Display and Storage

The company is offering different resolution with all the chipsets. The Snapdragon 660 supports up to 1600 x 2560 pixels QHD+ display for the larger device, which should be restricted to 1440 x 2560 pixels for smartphones. Snapdragon 665 and 675 can hold up to 1080 x 2520 pixels Full HD+ display and Snapdragon 710 tops with 1440 x 3360 pixels QHD+ display. As we can see, Snapdragon 710 has the advantage to offer higher resolution display smartphones.

As per my personal view, it doesn’t matter a lot because Full HD+ is more than enough for budget-restricted devices. Some would think that higher resolution means better display but is not the reality. The Full HD+ display is a perfect combination unless you are not using VR stuff. Also, it saves battery and stable graphics while playing the games due to more frame rates. Apart from that, all the chipsets arrive with LPDDR4X RAM support and UFS 2.1 flash storage. All in all, these matches with current industry standards whether it is display or memory.

Camera and Connectivity

Technically, all the chipsets support up to 25MP single camera and dual 16MP + 16MP camera both front and rear sides. But after making some compromise with specs, Snapdragon 675 and 710 can go up to whopping 192MP. It opens the door for new technologies like Samsung’s pixels binning, which combines 4 pixels into one to enhance the megapixels count. It has its own advantage to produce sharper images, but I would say this is nothing more than a market gimmick.

If a 12MP camera is well optimized, it can easily beat the so-called 64MP camera in every aspect. I believe this is nothing more than a marketing strategy. The company is using Spectra 250 ISP on Snapdragon 675 and snapdragon 710, which is definitely better than the Spectra 160 found on the other two. To be precise, the Image Signal Processors (ISP) helps to process the image while we take a shot on camera. The faster ISP means, it will more quickly combine the individual pixels providing a faster shutter speed.

Connectivity-wise, Snapdragon 660 / 665 / 675 performs equally good because all are using Snapdragon X12 integrated 4G modem. In comparison, Snapdragon 710 incorporates the latest X15 modem, which delivers up to 800Mbps download and 150 Mbps upload speed. Indeed, it is better than the Snapdragon X12 with 600 Mbps download and 150 Mbps upload speed. Even though most of the countries still battling with much lower speeds, it doesn’t matter a lot in developing country. To utilize the highest potentials, it requires the infrastructure from telecom companies.

Conclusion – Who is the final winner?

Frankly speaking, the gap is not a big between winner between Snapdragon 675 and 710. Othe two Snapdragon 660 and 675 are not directly comparable because these are lower mid-range chipsets. Moving further, where the Snapdragon 675 holds a better CPU. At the same time, Snapdragon 710 has a more powerful GPU. Now, the decision is yours which suits well with your requirements.

If your priority is gaming and overall a balanced chip, my pick would be Snapdragon 710, otherwise, 675 offers good multitasking experience. Overall, Snapdragon 710 is a balanced chip with great power efficiency and optimal performance. What is your take? Do let’s know in the comment section!
