Facebook Working On AI System That Could ‘Open’ Closed Eyes in Photos

Facebook researchers are now working on a brand-new Artificial Intelligence (AI) system that can make Closed Eyes look convincingly open.

With retouching of images using different tools prior to posting them on social networks platforms becoming a practice for lots of, the new system might be of enormous use for users as efficient convenient tool to change closed eyes with open ones are now tough to come by.

In a paper, Facebook researchers presented a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), basically a machine learning system that attempts to deceive itself into believing its creations are real, TechCrunch reported on Saturday.

With data from the target individuals when they kept their eyes open, the GAN system discovers exactly what eyes ought to go on the individual on the basis of shape, colour and other functions of the eyes of a specific individual.

The Facebook scientists found the outcomes quite promising.

“Exemplar GANs provide a beneficial option for image generation or in-painting, when an area of that image has some sort of determining function,” the researchers wrote in the paper.

“They supply superior perceptual results due to the fact that they include recognizing information stored in reference images or perceptual codes,” the paper stated.

In screening, individuals misinterpreted the fake eyes-opened pictures for real ones or said they couldn’t be sure which was which, over half the time, the TechCrunch report said.
