Right VoIP Billing Platform for VoIP Service Provider

Custom WebRTC Client Solution Development Is What You Need for Business

VoIP service providers need to offer the latest in Voip services at affordable prices and must tailor packages to suit end users. If services are important, so is revenue generation and for this, the service providers must have the right VoIP billing platform in place.

Service providers and ITSPs have two options. One is to source a VoIP solution that incorporates VoIP billing module. The second option is to get billing package from a third party at additional cost. Both have their pros and cons.

In any case, the right VoIP billing software must have modules for various purposes:
– Wholesale: Carriers bill other wholesale VoIP service providers, origination and termination
features
– ITSP: PC to PC calls, PC to phone calls and residential VoIP services billing
– VoIP retail: Prepaid calling cards and postpaid cards, call back, IP-PBX.

International carriers may operate across various geographic regions and one desirable feature in the billing platform is the ability to use the language of choice for billing. The other is currency choice and the third is automatic calculation of taxes according to specific tax jurisdictions. Whether one chooses a softswitch integrated billing that works alongside the VoIP solution or a standalone solution for billing, the package must have the features mentioned above.

Then there are other considerations. A VoIP service provider may offer different customized solutions to his customers and each module or feature may carry a charge in which case the system needs to track usage of the client and bill according to services availed. A single client may choose to avail of some services this month and then stop them the next or opt for pay as you go scheme in a hosted scenario. All these variables need to be factored into the billing platform that a VoIP service provider chooses. Frequency of billing may also vary according to understanding and one may issue a weekly bill or a monthly bill, which facility should be available.

There is a common perception that a third party billing platform for VoIP is better since it works on an independent server and does not affect technical operations and that it is flexible in customization. This may be true but in that case the entire billing platform needs to be prepared by a developer who is fully conversant with how the VoIP industry works. There is also no possible reason why an included module that comes bundled with the VoIP solution should not work if it is carefully designed and implemented to account for all variable use scenarios. It is cheaper too and support is available from the developer who supplied the VoIP solution.
