2019 Hyundai Kona EV will have two battery options

Hyundai’s next electric car, the Kona EV will debut in a few months at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Hyundai hasn’t given too many details about the Kona electric SUV, but we do know that it will have a driving range around 210 miles.

Now we’ve learned that the 2019 Kona EV will be offered with a choice of two Battery packs. The base Kona EV will be powered by a 40 or 50 kWh battery, while a longer range Kona will get a 64 kWh battery. The larger battery will give the Kona EV a longer driving range than the 2018 Nissan Leaf, although a long-range Leaf is coming for the 2019 model year.

With a driving range around 210 miles, the long-range Kona will land squarely in the middle of the electric segment, since it’s range is a bit shorter than the Chevy Bolt and Tesla Model 3, but longer than other eVs, like the BMW i3 and VW e-Golf.
