Snapdragon Processors Ranking & Complete List

Snapdragon is a series of System-on-Chip by Qualcomm. It is based on the ARM Architecture and it is targeted towards platforms such as Smartphones, Tablets, and Notebooks. This article contains the list of Snapdragon Processors of the current Snapdragon Series and their rankings. We have only included the Snapdragon 200, 400, 600, 700 and 800 Series in this list.

The Specification of these Processors is obtained from the Qualcomm‘s Official Website. But the method for the rankings of the Processors is developed by Tech News With Me. We use various algorithms and consider real-world performance as a critical factor in the ranking of Processors.

If you wanted a comparison between various Processors, our rankings are the best way to determine the overall performance of the chip.

For many Tech Enthusiasts and prospective smartphone buyers, device’s performance plays the biggest role. And when it comes to Hardware, it is the processor that makes it possible to achieve that performance.

A better SOC will lead yo better performance, multi-tasking, and gaming. And finally, all these factors will lead to a better user experience. For me, the user experience and stability play the biggest role and for this reason, I prefer Qualcomm Processors over others. Most phones that run on these SOCs have an excellent custom ROM development and support at XDA Developers.

In the next section, you can look at the rankings of all the Qualcomm Snapdragon Processors launched after 2014. And after that, you can check out the list of Processors belonging to Snapdragon 200, 400, 600, 800, and the new 700 series.

What is TN Mark?

TN Mark is a Processor’s Performance Rating System developed by Tech News With Me. It is not any benchmark tool or something that simply relies on the raw performance or the specification of a processor.

We calculate TN Mark based on a Processor’s Performance + Features + User Experience + Issues. If any processor suffers from lags or overheating in real-world usage, we deduct its score according to the extent of the problem. But if a chip is well-optimized, we make sure to give it extra points.

We calculate the score of Performance and Features via an algorithm and then we manually add or deduct score from it based on the User Experience. By giving a particular score to its raw performance, real-world performance, chip-level optimization, and user experience, we determine the TN Mark. All this makes TN Mark the most accurate way for calculating the performance and rankings of Processors.

  • Snapdragon 810 suffered heavy penalty due to Throttling and Overheating Issues. We also deducted scores from Snapdragon 652, 617, and a few other Processors because of overheating.
  • Only the Processors launched after 2014 are present in the above list
  • We round off the TN Mark Score to the next significant digit

Even though 653/652/650 have better raw performance than 630/626/625,

630/626/625 may have compareable/better scores than 653/652/650 because of their Better Memory, Fabrication Technology, Modem, User Experience, and other Features.

How is TN Mark Calculated?

Here are the Parameters that are used to determine the TN Mark Score:

    Snapdragon 800 Series (Flagship)

The Snapdragon 800 series first appeared in the market in 2013. This series offers the best performance among all Qualcomm Processors and this series is mostly used by flagship devices. These can be found on LG V Series, Samsung Galaxy S Series, Xiaomi Mi Series, OnePlus devices, etc.

Any new feature or technology developed by Qualcomm is usually first implemented in the 800 series and later it comes to the other series. For example, the first Qualcomm Processor with 14nm FinFet was Snapdragon 820 which was launched in last quarter of 2015. In the second quarter of 2016, Qualcomm brought this technology on 600 series with the Snapdragon 625. Then finally in 2017, Qualcomm launched Snapdragon 450 with 14nm FinFET fabrication.

The Snapdragon 800, 801, 805, and 808 were excellent Processors of their time. However, the Snapdragon 810 suffered from throttling and it was unarguably the worst processor of 800 series.

With Snapdragon 820, Qualcomm came back in the game strongly and introduced Kryo Cores for the first time. They further optimized the chip with the introduction of 821. The first Snapdragon Processor manufactured with 10nm Process was 835 and with this, we saw a major performance boost. Snapdragon 835 uses Kryo 280 cores which are actually semi-custom Cortex-A73 and Cortex-A53 cores.

The Snapdragon 845 took the performance to even great heights. They further optimized the 10nm Technology and used the Kryo 385 cores which consist of semi-custom ARM Cortex-A75 and Cortex-A55 cores.

Now, we all are waiting for the upcoming Snapdragon 855 which is built on the 7nm Technology.

    Snapdragon 700 Series (High-End)

In 2018, Qualcomm announced a new series and the Snapdragon 710 was its first member. I’ve referred the Snapdragon 700 series as high-end because of its extreme performance that matches flagship processors. It fills the gap between 600 and 800 Series.

In our rankings, the Snapdragon 710 stands just below the 835 and this clearly indicates its high performance. It was actually supposed to be launched as the Snapdragon 670. But because the gap between mid-range and flagship series was filling up quickly so Qualcomm introduced a new series.

The specification as well performance of this series is top-notch and it is nearly impossible to differentiate it with an 800 series chip.

    Snapdragon 600 Series (Mid-Range)

The Snapdragon 600 series targets the mid-range segment and some of its processors deliver high performance while some other target efficiency. The first processor of this series (Snapdragon 600) was launched in 2013. They further improved the performance with the introduction of 610.

I’ve never been a fan of the Snapdragon 615, 616, and 617. Even though they deliver decent performance, these three processors suffered from overheating and Qualcomm finally had to bring the 14nm Fabrication in the mid-range with the launch of Snapdragon 625.

The Snapdragon 625, 626, and 630 are highly efficient Processors because of the 14nm FinFET fabrication and their raw performance is decent as well.

On the other hand, the Snapdragon 650, 652, and 653 deliver great performance due to their Cortex-A72 Cores but they sometimes overheat on heavy usage. Snapdragon 650 and 652 first appeared as Snapdragon 618 and 620 but because of their superior performance, Qualcomm renamed them.

The Snapdragon 660 and 636 were the first processors in 600 series to use Qualcomm’s Kryo cores. They use a Kryo 260 (a semi-custom Cortex-A73 and Cortex-A53 CPU) and the 14nm Technology. This makes them deliver high-performance without any throttling issues.

    Snapdragon 400 Series (Low-End)

The Snapdragon 400 Series is for low-end phones but it is good enough to deliver a lag-free experience.

The first processor from this series was launched in 2013. The most popular processors of this series are Snapdragon 400 & Snapdragon 410 and these two power more than a hundred smartphones.

The Snapdragon 412 and 415 were not that popular but the Snapdragon 425 and 430 power a lot of smartphones.

Snapdragon 435 was an upgraded variant of 430 with some slight improvements.

The Snapdragon 450 is a game changer of this series in which the 14nm Process is used for the first time. It is actually an underclocked variant of Snapdragon 625 and the performance and features are more or less the same.
