There are many components to creating a smarter home, although arguably the most important is a solid internet connection. That’s why Virgin Media has just made 100Mbps speeds standard for all entry-level customers.

Virgin Media has gradually been increasing its internet speeds over the last few years, with the company’s fibre optic service now offering blisteringly fast speeds up to 300Mbps.

The announcement of faster speeds coincides with the wider roll-out of the new Virgin TV V6 box, which is the cable company’s competitor to Sky Q.

The Virgin TV V6 box will now be included in the Mix, Fun and Full House bundles as standard, giving new customers’ access to Virgin TV’s smartest, fastest box to date, as well as a wide variety of entertainment. Existing customers can also take advantage of the Virgin TV V6 box, with upgrade pricing varying depending on the package taken.

Tom Mockridge, CEO of Virgin Media, said: “By beefing up our bundles we’re leaving our competitors in the rear view mirror, starting where they finish. Eye-watering speeds, a better box and top-notch TV is a winning combination.

With the upgraded service, Virgin Media Customers currently on the 50Mbps plan will now get 100Mbps as standard. It’s likely that those on VIVID 100, the 100Mbps service, will be upgraded to the company’s 200Mbps package, while those will be upgraded to 300Mbps.
