Robert’s Pick: I’m always been a sucker for setting, whether it’s the exotic backdrops for James Bond, or the architectural authenticity of the Assassin’s Creed series. Given that Akihabara extends the world’s primary otaku-opia, offering copious amount of games, anime, figurines, tasty food, idol worship and maid costumes, its little wonder than I’m drawn to any game that uses Electric Town as its locale. This week’s release of Akiba’s Beat might not lack the over-the-top merriment of its clothes-shredding predecessors, but looks to make up for that shortcoming by doubling down on gameplay. With an unmistakable Persona-esque vibe albeit with real-time action, Acquire’s latest confronts the concept that fan-service is a requirement for success.
