Blog Kiosk: 10/19/2018 - Dodgers Links - Game 6 Today!

I thought this would be a fun little photo to share as we prepare for Game 6 of the NLCS tonight. Featured above is a 1962 ABC promotional photo for the Donna Reed Show, and as you can see it includes Don Drysdale peering creepily from behind. (eBay Auction Link)  This pic was for the episode "The Man in the Mask" that aired on May 31, 1962.

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1981 Rick Monday made Dodger history by hitting a dramatic solo home run in the eighth inning of Game 5 of the NLCS to propel the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Expos. Go here to watch a highlight of it. He hit a 3-1 fastball against Steve Rogers. Fernando Valenzuela allowed just three hits and one run in 8 2/3 innings. The win sent the team to the World Series against the Yankees. In 1988 the Dodgers took advantage of several Oakland errors/pass balls to defeat the A's, 4-3, in Game 5 of the World Series. The Dodgers now lead the series 3-1.

  • I agree! Go with the hot hand. Per Bill Plunkett on twitter:

  • Via Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports; "David Price and Clayton Kershaw killed a postseason narrative that never deserved to exist anyway."
And that’s important to note when considering the postseason careers of the 33-year-old Price and 30-year-old Kershaw, the Los Angeles Dodgers ace with far more playoff successes than Price but enough failures that a reputation attached itself to him like a parasite. To say that in October Price and Kershaw have not pitched up to their standards, or in some cases merely well, is true. To say they cannot is wrong. Have not connotes what already is etched in stone. Cannot falsely foretells an unwritten future. It presupposes that they are incapable of learning, evolving, doing all of the things that have won them Cy Young Awards and All-Star Game appearances and plaudits as two of their generation’s finest left-handed pitchers.
  • False accusations do not benefit anyone. Per Ryan Young at Yahoo Sports; "Brewers reportedly suspect Dodgers are using video to steal signs."
While they said that they have no direct evidence, the Brewers have suspicions that this has been happening throughout the series, which they informed Major League Baseball’s “resident security agents” about. The league said they have not detected anything.
“They use video people to get sequences,” a Brewers source told The Athletic of the Dodgers. “It’s known throughout the league. MLB knows it’s an issue.”
  • Per Daniel Starkand at Dodger Blue; "Kenley Jansen Named Finalist For Trevor Hoffman Award."
  • Per Michael Wittman at Dodgers Way; "Revisiting the 1977-1978 Los Angeles Dodgers." This was the last Dodger club to make back-to-back World Series appearances.
  • Via Craig Minami at True Blue LA; "Santana gets off to hot start in winter ball: Cristian Santana joins three other Dodger minor-leaguers in Dominican Republic League."
