No more excuses for Aubameyang, Emery and Arsenal

As we enter the middle of the week the focus turns to the next fixture against West Ham and the string of Fixtures afterwards. We played two tough teams in the first two weeks and as you all know against these sorts of teams margin for error is low and while there were some bright sparks, we had negatives here and there and that was enough to ensure we went home with nothing. With the margin of error now increased in what appears to be a easier run of fixtures there should be no excuses for Arsenal and Aubameyang from now until October.

Aubameyang

First off I wanted to talk about Aubameyang’s performance against Chelsea. He would be the first to admit it simply was not good enough and we can only speculate what could have been had he taken those chances. Things need to be put into perspective though. In years gone past we would miss chances like that our heads would go down and we would not only not come back, but we would capitulate against the big teams. The fact that the team had the fight in them to come back was brilliant to see. If Aubameyang was on his game we could have been unstoppable.

All strikers have bad days and if you really think about it this is probably Aubameyang’s first one since he joined the club. He’s hit the ground running and it’s about time he had a bad day. This is the man who scored 10 and assisted 3 late last season. While it doesn’t excuse the easy misses it was his pressing that helped us get the ball back before we played from the back to score that fantastic goal for Iwobi. He is working hard and somewhat made up for it even if it wasn’t completely obvious.

We wanted a pacy striker to complement Ozil we wanted someone clinical, and we got him and he’s had his first real bad day. We must back him and be patient with him as we know the quality that he has. It’s important to know that up until a year or so ago it was Chelsea’s striker who came off the bench, Giroud who was our main man. That tells you all you need to know.

Upcoming fixtures

Having said that I will partially contradict myself by saying that Aubameyang and the rest of Emery’s army for that matter must make the next two months count. Here are our fixtures until the end of October, with the Europa League draw still pending:

West Ham (H)
Cardiff (A)
Newcastle (A)
Everton (H)
Watford (H)
Fulham (A)
Leicester (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

If we play with the same intensity and the same mentality and same desire as we did in our opening two fixtures I have no doubt we can get three points from most if not all the above fixtures.

The opposition will be slower, their defences a little less solid and easier for us to retrieve the ball off when pressing. I mean no disrespect but this is the reality.

If Aubameyang had his bad day last weekend then he’s in prime position to bounce back into form against the sides above and possibly score multiple goals.

Patience has been the word even since Emery started and it shall continue to be the case but I would be lying if I didn’t have a checkpoint of sorts after this run of fixtures. I think it’s fair to pass some sort of judgement after these two months (without going overboard) and fair for us to have expectations of success during this time.

To Aubameyang, Emery and the lads, let’s build some momentum in these next two months!
