Time running out for Ramsey to sign extension with Arsenal

Admist all the change happening at the club at the moment, old habits die hard. While Emery is trying to implement his new style we are still getting beaten by the long ball and amongst other things we are not tying down our players to contracts. Nasri, Fabregas, Van Persie and Sanchez come to mind but in 2018 it is the Aaron Ramsey saga that is flying under the radar.

Contract negotiations appeared to have stalled at the moment and we are now into the last 11 months. As it stands he can leave for free next northern summer.

Emery needs to play this one smartly. I appreciate he is being a bit ruthless at the moment, for example Guendouzi has started ahead of more experienced counterparts, Ozil got substituted against Chelsea and Ramsey himself seemingly dropped after Man City. There’s no favouritism no excessive unwarranted loyalty like under Wenger, a fresh start for every player to prove themselves. The way it should be, or should it?

Ramsey has had some wonderful seasons for us and scored some crucial goals, in particular in cup finals. We wouldn’t want to see him go to a rival and purely from an age perspective he is in his late 20s, his Peak Years are now and we need to make the most of them. It is difficult to say what Emery thinks. With all the reports coming in during preseason it felt like he wanted to build the team around the Welshman and he had rated him so highly, and yet we see him dropped after the Manchester City game.

Regardless of what happens, if Emery believes he’s one for the future or he isn’t we need to sign him to a new deal and fast. Either we get him in his peak years and make the most of the investment we made in the back then youngster in 2008 or at least with a contract signed, we can cash in on any bids that come next summer rather than see him go for free.

Personally it would be a real shame that he got Ramsey all those years ago, to have him choose us over Manchester United, only for them to get him eventually a decade later during his peak years. It would be a real shame and would be a step backwards to the days where we sold out best players to rivals.

But like I said even if Emery doesn’t rate him anymore and doesn’t see a future here for whatever reason I will back the new manager but regardless, we need that deal signed from a business perspective at the very least so we can sign a decent replacement. Whatever needs to be done to get the deal done, we have to do it.
